my mom was a seamstress & milliner. When she taught me to sew she insisted that the inside be as beautiful as the outside. This was a pleasure to watch.

I added "rope binding" to a twin bed mattress cover using solarium fabric using my commercial juki sewing machine. I used took apart old cover and used it as a pattern exactly. I noticed the fabric puckered a little as I was going along applying the cording but didn't think any thing of it and when I was attaching the sides now, Im about six inches shorter at the end on the main piece. what caused this?

This is a blast from the past. Growing up my father had a furniture shop. He made bedroom sets and living room/den sets. From start to finish, he did everything. My oldest sister was given a bedroom set and a living room set when she moved out. (She is much older than I am.) She had both sets, for 30 years. The bedroom set still looked brand new. And there was not even a loose thread on the living room set and yes, the fabric was very outdated!!! Products that are made with quality in mind, truly does last. Thank you for the video. I never had any clue on how he sewed the cushions.

Truly, your sister has a treasure, and evidently she knows it because she took care of it, and treasured it!❤ as far as the outdated, upholstery fabric. That’s all right it takes her outdated lol vintage is also outdated.😊 she’s smart for not changing a thing on her furniture. And God bless your heart. Evidently you like me you got left behind and without.😢 i’m sorry. But maybe you could learn how to do. Upholstery pick up some old pieces and start your own collection of antique furniture.♥️ Good luck, dear. Have fun.😃❤️❤️❤️

Wow! This video popped up on my KZbin feed and it is exactly what I need to do to a cushion for my husband. I just finished cutting the dense foam piece with my handheld electric meat/bread slicer. Works great for fish too. The zipper application is exactly what I needed to see. His old cushion and zipper were destroyed (parts missing) and was hard to determine exactly what it was so I started from scratch. All I need now is to go grab some ‘silk film’ the shop vac and get this done! Thank you!!!

What a fantastic video! Thank you so much for sharing this. I am about to attempt to recover some pieces of antique furniture I got second hand for little and nothing due to the shape it was in. It was exactly the style I wanted though and to buy it already reupholstered would have cost about 30k. I really appreciated how you addressed the thickness of the fabric with all those layers. I honestly was going to give up but when you said I could likely get away with using my home sewing machine with a thinner fabric I was so relieved to hear that. I am going to be using silk dupioni to re-cover the pieces as it will not get much use and is mostly decorative and that fabric is fairly thin. I am so excited to get my project underway now. Your clear instructions and all the information you shared has made me quite confident.
