Why molecular mechanics use for 100 molecule

As per my understanding from this video, It involves empirical method of calculation which is less time consuming and less comprehensive method, ignores the electrons and gives less precise data of a >100 molecular gathering. Since advanced methods like ab-initio will be too much time consuming hence less helpful for this kind of system.
