Have sever ADHD, cant sit and do much of anything i am not 100% invested in. The one time i ever feel like a “Normal” person. i.e. being able to concentrate, not being extremely aggressive/Emotional, as well as not being a hermit. Not interested in even talking to good friends/Family. Was when I was on speed. I was able to be sociable, to not only actually complete a task, but to go above and beyond in completing it to my highest ability. To be able to have meaningful and honest conversations with my wife. With my sobriety came the struggle of trying to maintain not only my relationships but my work as a musician, the worst part is i dont feel normal anymore, i feel like im a quarter of who i was or want to be.

@@AbuAnas2018 I take a really low dose, 1.25mg dextroamphetamine, every 3 hours 4x a day. Simply because I get too many side effects when I go up in dosage. I still get some benefits from the 1.25mg. Though when I was on methylphenidate I could tolerate 27mg long release, quite well, but it didn't calm me down like dextroamphetamine. But it can vary for everyone :)

Methylphenidate/Ritalin causes me to have anxiety and causes dysphoria for me as Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, mixed salts/Adderall tends to be more calming for me and also provides a mood lift. These medications work wonders for the patients who need it. ❤

Indeed But the weird thing was Adderall didn't work for me at all. Nothing at all. In fact it worsened my depressive symptoms. Strange. I wonder if I had a bad batch or if my chemistry just isn't right for it.

This information helped me and my nurse practitioner find what works for me. The levoamphetamine in the mixed salts gives me some physical side effects. Mostly muscle tension and dry eyes. Vyvasne didnt last but 4-5 hours and would make me overstimulated if we raised the dose. I brought this info up with my np and asked about trying Dexedrine. She moved me over to 4 small doses of Dexedrine and it’s been working really well. For me it’s not quite as effective as adderall but I’d say I get about 70% of the benefits of adderall without any other side effects besides some mild appetite suppression and dry mouth. I also find the crash is much more manageable. Most of the time I don’t even notice it. Only real downside is it doesn’t last as long as adderall. That being said I can easily get 11-12 hours out of 4 doses at 5mg each.

Thank you very much for this very informative video. Could you make a video about how you decide on the right medication and the right dose? Especially, if a medication doesn't work for someone, what does that mean in terms of the likelihood of effectiveness for other options. If Focalin doesn't work, would that mean that Concerta won't work either? Is it reasonable to take a combination of methylphenidate and amphetamine?

Methyphenadate is the generic for Ritalin. However the recipe is different than Ritalin. Methylphenadate has both Amphetamine and DextroMethylphenadate (Real Methamphetamine).

Will Wellbutrin decrease the effectiveness of adderall due to the competitive action on DAT? Similar to two people walking through the a double swinging door in opposite directions? I know Wellbutrin and modafinil have been proposed for the treatment of Amphetamine abuse.

what is Vyvanse then? it has the D? Dexedrine I found it better less increase in heart rate and blood pressure ,

Vyvanse is effectively time-release Dexedrine. It is exclusively D-Amphetamine, whereas Adderall is a combination of D & L-Amphetamine, the latter of which is responsible for those blood pressure/heart rate side effects you’re talking about. Dexedrine is pure D-Amphetamine. Vyvanse has an amino acid attached to the D-Amphetamine molecule that is removed when the liver processes it, which allows for a slower more consistent release of the medication and is the reason people say Vyvanse lasts quite a long time (12-18 hours). It also has the added benefit of reducing abuse potential. You cannot get high by crushing and snorting Vyvanse because the amino acid attached to the D-Amphetamine molecule effectively neutralizes it and can only be removed in digestion.

Male, 5’11, Adult. Took my first Adderall pill 30 minutes ago. The extended release version. Thing is my pill bottle says “Amphetamine Resin Complex.” There’s zero information on what that even means on online. The paperwork that came with the medication has TWO different names on it: 1) Ampetamine Resin Complex XR 2) Dextroamphetamine/Amphetamine Extended Release In the appointment a few days ago my physc told me she was prescribing me Adderall XR. I’m confused by all these different names. Also, my actual pills all say “Lannett.” So far I don’t feel anything. It’s only 10mg. But can any Psychiatrists explain their thoughts? I have to wait a month to see my doctor again at the VA.

@@Care92 I did. The names on the medication are just generic names since “Adderall” is both a medication & and brand name. Other producers of that medication opt for generic names. Lannet is the competing company producing generic Adderall. My dosage was upped to 20 XR and will likely be increased to 30 XR next month.

I take 80 mg vyvanse and 15 mg of dextroamphetamine tab for days I need a little more, as directed by my VAMC doctor. Have a good explanation for why you want an increase. Don't stop till you can't sleep then back off the dose till you are sleepy. Floor it until it shakes then let off a little. There's your regimen.

I don't believe so, they are indicated for anyone over 6. I'm not sure if there is recommendation against prescribing to seniors, I haven't heard so but I have heard ADHD symptoms can improve with age.
