Looks like what they use to work on steam punk stuff

Reminds me of an aviation history book I have called "the worlds's worst aircraft". In the intro they emphasized that this wasn't about putting down the creative efforts of different eras of aviation but celebrating the genius and ambition of confronting a problem when you don't "know" what the "correct" answer looks like. A really critical lesson in an age where so much complex stuff just works and yet so much remains broken. Also, shiny!

Doc, I think it’s time you give us a tour of your tool storage. I can only imagine how much you would need to store your tools.

Excellent find sir, that wrench is very unique. I felt the same way about a Brace. I was always fooling around with it. I was one of those fidget tools. I must have bored a hundred holes just playing with it when I was a young pup. I have a Robert Larson piece now just because. The workmanship is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for another great video brother. Stay strong.

Cris T 0 seconds ago I like to think there is a kind of ‘language’ in engineered things like tools and mechanical objects like engines and other technology. All of it follows a logical and similar pattern that makes sense on its face, even before getting into the intricacies; the simpler the more efficient, and the better

I agree. In which case operation is self evident. No instructions required.

It would be so much neater if the measuring scale was on the other side of the screw to get much more resolution

I could only imagine what the crew would say if I pulled this out and started tightening fasteners with it lmao.

I have an original Zip Grip, all high carbon steel,no screws on top of the head to hold the head on. Has Zip Grip stamped into the side of the head. I bought it at a flea market

I bought it at a flea market in Fort Worth.42 years ago. It is exquisite. I have collected some antique tools that would blow your socks off.

A nice Substitute for this tool is Titan 21321 11-Inch Auto Wrench
@edwardtan13542 жыл бұрын
the design seems to be very similar ti the one resurrected by handtool rescue its just that the screw is executed differently then again his wrench was made for square nuts

I understood the flat jawed styled pipe wrenches to be called “monkey wrenches”. I’m not sure if it was just slang used in my area or was a common term every where.
@dustinbird20902 жыл бұрын
I thought "monkey wrenches" referred to pipe wrenches. With the jaw of the wrench being actuated on a pivot that would loosen its grip if pushed in one direction and close its grip when pulled the other way. This gripping action was what I was told gives pipe wrenches the "monkey wrench" moniker.

Would be nice if you could insert a hex key into the base of the shaft, or otherwise tighten it. Without that (giving it the ability to be used as a handheld vice) I don't see this as anything more than a novelty.
@chiphill48562 жыл бұрын
According to the website it grips just fine for fasteners, etc as-is.

Beautifully engineered but that looks like black plastic or is it anodized metal . That would be a deal breaker.

There are no plastic parts. The slider and end stop are anodized aluminum.
