Synecdoche is actually a type of metonymy, so you are not making a mistake by saying that a synecdoche is a metonymy (by saying this you are actually making a connection part for whole where the part is synecdoche and the whole is metonymy, so that's kinda funny because that's metonymy!) the "I've got a new set of wheels" (Lakoff 1980: 36, or Dragićević or Kövecses would say the same, if anyone wants a bit more detail I can send you a pdf of this) is a good example of it. So in conclusion conceptual metonymy is a mechanism of thinking that contains synecdoche inside of itself, and greatly helps us grasp concepts of the world around us. Thank you for reading this far.

I confuse people with metonyms too often. At least that's what I think I'm using. For example, a girl is swimming and I say "she's quite the mermaid" to denote the idea that she's part fish and thus loves water. Another example, "he drinks water like a camel" (meaning he drinks a lot of water). I frequently use these as jokes and I often get confused looks. I guess my form of dry humour is very unique and not very common. :-/

The car is a "vehicle" must have wheels. That does not make them an accidental option. A crown can only be worn by the said king or it means nothing. It is accidental though here in terms of necessity of proving identity.

A hand would refer to the concept of help. Although in most cases, a physical hand is indeed a part of the help you get. But most cases it refers to help in general I presume

But man cannot live on bead alone in fact and plainly not all food as bread is kneaded. So the essence of this example would be triteness. As with crown, it refers to an individual. A king or queen not the notion of monarch. This is problem with devices as understood here are merely decorative. In fact the must turn the wheel of power to mean anything but useless distraction and embellishment.
