Australia's biggest homebuilder, Metricon has struck a $115 million deal to sell a majority stake in its business to Japanese building giant, Sumitomo Forestry. But just after the deal was announced, the NSW Building Commission revealed it has attached five conditions to Metricon's licence in response to concerns over the company's handling of complaints, contracting practices and how it assesses quality standards. It also comes amid a 15-month investigation into the company after the ABC in 2023 revealed the builder had terminated dozens of fixed-price contracts and the regulator received a surge in complaints. Brad Duggan says Metricon is working hard to fix its reputation. In this interview, Mr Duggan also addresses the current housing supply challenge for builders and governments.
