I can notice that most of the comments given are against metro in Chennai. We must understand that there will be an issue in terms of traffic and road blocks due to metro work for the next 5 years. After that, it will be available for is to use metro. It's good for the city. You don't need to depend on road traffic. There will be an initial stage of struggle for the next 5 years and then we can enjoy... This is one of the best mode of transport that we can provide for our next generation.

Using Metro is one of a costly journey however people like u can afford. If it like a local train charging 5 to 10 rupees and covering majority of the areas in Chennai traffic will come down by 70%. Metro is worst local train is the best!

But don't have hopes for it to be cheap like delhi metro. Since Cmrl doesn't have the necessary ridership as delhi and bangalore's metro.

Good project. But priority should be given for the existing system. What about the rain water lines and drainage system in Chennai. Maintenance and electrifying along compact elevated corridors and tunnels in main roads/collectors aren't easy for MRTS. Metro is more compact and less complex in these situations. Also imagine the sound and vibration a train creates in a elevated path. Sound is also a reason Also intra city transit doesn't require huge capacity like MRTS trains. Hence compact metros for fast travel. MRTS runs as intercity and city's important locations and metro complements it with fast,connective intra city transit where trains are problematic and can't reach. Metros are replacement of trams not trains
