Also, considering one of the character in this DLC is an arms dealer and he has a large arsenal of Western weapons under his control when the war broke out, I assume ammo would be one of the last things he considers problematic.

In game I think they just say it was rechambered for .44; I don't know if that's on any level plausible but Metro really doesn't give a fuck about realistic guns when it comes to crazy mods/conversions/whatever. I guess all the gun smiths are unusually bored and spend all their time trying to outcrazy each other with mods.

Noticed something interesting, Sam and Artyom reload the AK differently (at least when pulling the bolt back after emptying a full mag). Artyom uses his right hand, while Sam uses his left.

I'm pretty sure the animations remained identical from vanilla to this DLC. The stock AK with a short and standard magazine are reloaded the same way. The extended magazines also have the same animations. If you're referring to the modern AK, the "Sammy", thats because there is an ambidextrous bolt so you can pull it using either hand.

It also might have something to do with their nationalities. West Europeans tend to reload with their left hand, while those in the east tend to use their right.

They are completely different rifles. On the sammy rifle, there are charging handles on both sides of the bolt carrier group. On the AK, there is only one charging handle on the right side of the bolt carrier group.

I think the reason why the 1911 appears in Sam’s story is during the war a lot of 1911s were imported and thus can be found around the wasteland but when we reach to Artyom they have either disappeared from constant salvaging or just Moscow wasn’t a war zone.

How loud a suppressed weapon can be has a lot of factors like powder load, type of suppressor etc, and it is possible to be Hollywood levels of silent although not common

As someone who works with guns, the unique designs and creative artwork in this game impressed me. And there isn't a single animation mistake in any of them, that's a rare breed of a game when the developers knows exactly what they are doing.

I agree. The way Sam reloads the Stallion for example is very pleasing and quite correct. I just wish that the slide was further back when locked. I know it would cover the weapon more, but him using the 1911 grip (firing hand thumb resting over the safety) would have been cool to see.

Fun fact: 1911 isn't all that alien to Russia. The Russian empire indeed has even comissioned some of them during WW1. As a matter of fact they used the locally made 45ACP. Those pistols saw the aforementioned war, the revolution and some - even the WW2
