Metro: Last Light Complete Edition is free on Steam until the 25th May and still looks great in 2023! It also runs pretty well too, and takes up less than 10GB of storage.

Thanks for letting us all know about this. Funny enough, this was my first "modern" PC game, a steam key came with the first gpu I ever bought (gtx 660 2 gig). I had a ton of fun with it, and it ran well at reasonable settings with my rig - i7 920, 660 and 12 gigs ddr3 1066 memory on an hdd.

@@shaneH1 That's a pretty solid rig. I just bought a 6750xt which totally outclasses my i7-7700 but still runs most games fairly well. It would fly on your 10400f so it's time for an upgrade.

i remember in 2021 i believe or early 2022 epic games had both redux's for free, I had never heard about metro before and decided to give them a try and fell in absolute love with them and rebeat them both multiple times and ended up buying exodus with the dlc and loved that as well. Generally quite underrated games as I never hear anyone ever talking about them and none of my friends before me getting them to play had ever heard of them

METRO games are all really good games and they have a certain dark, spooky feeling which is in some way different to other similar games. The issue is if you ask what is the difference I stumble to describe it - is has all the whistles and gamplay mechanic the other shooter games have to, it is more to search in the athmosphere where it feels just a bit different.(it is probably the Russian developers who made the difference in the feeling compared to western developed games). I absolutelly love the METRO series, back in the days it was one of these games which pushed your hardware to the limit (similar to the Cryisis series). I still like the first METRO game, this some can play with many incredible good mods available on the Nexus Mod servers - it is a must play game I would say so.

Oh man, i remember watching a 24 hour stream of my favorite youtuber playing this game the minute it came out in 2013. It's still a great game with amazing graphics, story and atmosphere.

Metro series is very close to my heart. Have read all the books, first one multiple times and multiple playthroughs on earlier games, all through. I really quite like the atmosphere and ambience of the people dwelling in metro stations and all the different kind of groups that inhabit it. There is also mystique and it opens up like a blooming flower when you're playing/reading. I also enjoy fps games and this hits the spot, well aimed shots make all the difference on harder difficulties!

I'm actually replaying the Metro franchise right now and I'm glad Last Light is on sale! I think all the entries are very solid titles in their own rights, but I really recommend Last Light above the other 2 lol

Epic has been trying to cut into Steam's share for how long now? 4 or 5 years at this point? 98% of people claim free games, play them and never buy anything at Epic anyway. The difference being, the developer on Steam gives away THEIR Steam keys, it's not a decision by VALVE. While Epic pays money to a Publisher/Dev to give away games on Epic. Steam doesn't care, because Epic is not a competition for them.

1:55 no no no, the Redux editions run much better than the original editions, even maxed out in 4K. In my experience, I own all versions and gain anywhere from 30-50% more FPS in the Redux editions.

@@genesisfan029 I play at 1440p. On higher resolutions, blurriness of old textures is even more visible. I found that using Nvidia's sharpen filter along with some good reshade will make it look really good, but original feels a bit dull and soft. Again, it looks good for a 10 year old game.

If you want to play on the deck, disable PhysX on the gameplay options as that just tanks performance. No difference whatsover in visual quality.

Awesome that this is free on Steam! I have these on GOG anyway, but it's good that more people can get to play this absolute banger for free :) One thing - would a test with AMD GPUs be possible? I've building a system with an RX 6650 XT and the Metro titles rather infamously have horrible performance and optimisation on Radeon back in the day and AMD GPUs. I can play just fine on my GTX 970M equipped laptop, but I'm thinking performance metrics for team red could be really useful...

Your 6650XT will have no problem with any of the Metro games. You only wont be able to use ray tracing on Exodus if you dont mod FSR2 into the game.

I love Metro Last Light overall but the only thing I dislike is the hidden gauge leading towards different endings. No way to know which ending will come until it comes. If you want to change the ending, you have to start from the very beginning.

Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition looks quite gorgeous with raytracing and runs rather well even on midrange systems with RT capable midrange GPUs. I'm talking solid 60 fps on high settings @ 1440p with a 6700xt or RTX360 TI

Playing Exodus right now and it's great. Will have to come back to this one after. Death Stranding is free on Epic games this week too. Recommend giving it a go for free. It's a bit slow but once you've played a few hours you get into the gameplay and story

These metro games (apart from exodus) are very easy to run, currently using a G4560 with its included HD610 in 2033 Redux on 720p low SSAA 0.5x and the game doesn't look bad at all, only get slightly lower FPS outside but it is very playable that's all I can say.

Last Light Redux runs better than the original Last Light, but it also has slightly reduced tessellation and reduced volumetric lighting at well. Both aren't something you'd notice during regular gameplay regardless.

i remember when tessalation was the "ray tracing" of that era. not as news-worthty and/or controversial but still, every single GPU struggles like heck with it on. now its the norm or just a given even in medium settings in modern games.
