Alternative 6 - Heavy Rail is the best, but I think it should end at Expo/Sepulveda! It's a perfect straight shot from the Valley into the Basin with all the critical stations and connections at UCLA's Campus, Westwood, Santa Monica Blvd, and then into the midst of the Sepulveda/Pico commercial corridor (much better for the subway than the more residential Olympic/Bundy corridor!) Sepulveda/Pico has much more potential to be developed into a dense and walkable neighborhood with mixed-use developments, retail, and other transit connections than Olympic/Bundy does. Plus Sepulveda/Pico is much closer to some of the more popular areas on the Westside like Sawtelle and Pico Blvd east of Sepulveda. Also as everyone else is saying: PLEASE!! NO MONORAIL!!!!

Heavy rail should be chosen over monorail. In my opinion alternative sixth would be the best option, as it offers an immediate connection to the UCLA campus and underground subways are always the best way to go. I also remember seeing something about a study that said a metro station with a connection to the campus would be the busiest station daily. It would be very great if metro could capitalize the high potential riderships the station would bring.

The monorail literally cannot connect to the G Line if it rides along I-405 because that station is being relocated to over Sepulveda Blvd. That's too far away to even be considered a connection. The Getty Center station is probably the only good thing about the Monorail proposal. It draws 1.8 million visitors annually, not to mention museum employees. Easily enough traffic to support a station. There is also the Leo Baeck Jewish Temple right there as well.

Thank you Metro for considering this project but in my humble opinion, LA could really benefit from having more heavy rails to go pretty much anywhere in the city. Our city would attract more people from around the world to live here if we had faster modes of public transit and it would be more appealing to low income earners. Rent would most likely still be high but at least it can make this city more worthwhile to live in than any other expensive city. The future will demand more faster public transit to be built so I'd say elevated light rail or heavy rail is a good investment now even if it's very expensive to build but more people will have jobs to maintain them.

Yes, everyone would want that including LA Metro, but it's not happening. Why? Funding. There is a finite amount of funding for the most part. That means it's more important to build out the system ASAP to serve the most number of people. LA Metro could then go back to the voters and ask for more money to upgrade the lines where it makes sense. Having a faster system that is half the size is actually worse. It's either/or, you can't have both unfortunately. Our Metro system is being built mostly with sales tax increases that will expire.

Alternative 5 or 6 is the best route for metro. Automated people movers are really more expensive and is not compatible with any of the other rail lines in the system. So when it comes to maintenance and repairs, it's going to cost the network more money to buy parts and even repair the line/ vehicles used on the line. Plus look at what Hawaii is going through with their automated rail system, inflation costs, undecided on how the last half of the line will be completed, plus it's really expensive to have an automated Network with the technology and the GPS of the trains that will have to be connected. As well as ATS that will have to be installed, which is federal rail compliant for passenger rail, and more expensive because these will be driverless trains. Another thing will be monorail, which should not even be on the table as an option. Again more expensive, not compatible with any of the other rail lines in the Metro Network, more expensive in the long run which could definitely increase the cost of fare ridership, noise pollution, but the best of it all is heavy construction in the middle of 405 which is already a parking lot. So with that in mind either light rail Subway or the heavy rail Subway will be the best options. These two solutions are already utilized on the Metro Network, they'll be less cost-efficient in the long run, plus better head ways and faster trains for a faster commute. Plus you have a possibility for the sepulveda line to connect with the purple line on the west side where a service tunnel to connect the two lines with the heavy rail option. For the light rail option, you can have a service tunnel at expo connecting with the former expo line as well for connectivity and possible future routes. So just remember sometimes less money spent improperly now ,means more spending and more cost in the future that could possibly affect the whole area. Just food for thought.

I feel like stealing lanes from the 405 would be less expensive than boring long tunnels. Not like traffic can get much worse through the Sepúlveda Pass anyway.
@Geotpf2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's not going to happen.
@metrofilmer88942 жыл бұрын
Yeah but that would make initially traffic worse with no while also having the same issues with connection that the monorail alternatives have

I know I've missed the public comment period, but please don't do something foolish, like choosing monorail. The capacity is awful, and won't be as cheap as it looks. BYD's proposals are completely misleading. Monorail for such a high demand corridor would be a historic mistake.

Amazing how everyone knows what to do. Everyone blathering here is some kind of transportation expert. They could really use these people in, say, Japan, which hasn't had the benefit of American transportation expertise.

Light High speed metro

A highly needed transit corridor for sure. But don't you notice how all California's Metro projects lack general consistency like world class systems you see in London, Paris or across Germany? Metro has delivered virtually no standardization of rail car types or an overall master plan that encourages common maintenance, spare parts, skills or other things to reduce long term operation costs. Look at our $100 Billion high speed "train to nowhere" and the hodge podge approach to L.A. Country public transportation, driven by special interests and those who scream the loudest during the environmental impact review process. Watch what happens here! The wealthy people that live in the Sepulveda corridor will force yet another rail or monorail type and make it be built under ground so they don't have to see it. The complex terrain will make this project the highest cost per mile of any project on earth. Los Angeles Country enabled reckless spending by voting in super long term funding (aka even higher taxes) for 40+ years out which guarantees spending without first having a standardized design and operational master plan. Before spending another dime, we need to hit the reset button and get a master plan with common car types and proof that we can spend the money efficiently.

There is light rail and heavy rail. Seem standard to me.

As examples, The D line rail cars in the Los Angeles MTA system are manufactured by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles (China), A/C/Metro lines are made by Alstom, L Line made by LRV (Japan), M Line Breda (Italy). All with different spare parts, different technical repair procedures, proprietary training and maintenance contracts which contribute to higher operating costs due to lack of standardization. I'm not anti mass transit at all. I'm just frustrated with the inefficient ways that the MTA and California High Speed Rail systems build and operate the systems. This is what happens in our system of special interests, lobbying, and approving hundreds of billions of long term bond spending without a master, long term plan. Why are our subways and mass transit trains some of the slowest in the world, yet they cost the highest by most measures? Where is the accountability? If I consistently deliver my projects over budget and behind schedule, I get fired and our subcontractors eat the overage or lose their contracts. But not in our pubic rail systems here in California. The rail systems and contractors blame and sue one another, and inevitably pass the extra costs on to us taxpayers. Or does the hundreds of billions of bond money just fall out of the sky and no one has to pay?

The monorail option is actually much cheaper and is superior to light rail
@Geotpf2 жыл бұрын
@@hockeyplayer28 Again, Metro currently uses only two systems: Heavy rail and light rail. All light rail lines are compatible with the same trains, including all future light rail lines. Now, of this project specifically, only alternative 6 uses the current standard heavy rail; 4 and 5 use a different , supposedly superior, technology from Bechtel, and the monorail is, um, a monorail. Obviously, high speed rail is completely different from all of the above.

I have lived here my whole life and I beseech you to please include consideration for the wildlife The birds path, the deer , the coyotes the rabbits, the big cats… you have to be aware they are a crucial part of the charm of LA part of the environment we are founded upon.
