Small details I noticed 1. At first he looks sane as a metro cop but after a while when he takes his mask off his eyes are wide open meaning he is no longer sane 2. That smile made by Gordon at the end may also hint at how Gordon doesn’t feel much sympathy for enemies after the horrors of the black mesa incident as a result of traumatization. 3. If you look at the guy as he is about to turn into a metrocop you can see him slightly looking somewhat sad or hesitating.

@@Inlet I fell ... victim to a unique situation or cycle. More below. (TL;DR: I eventually was forced to enter the cycle and even voluntarily out of hate and anger joined up with Civil Protection) ------- **ALRIGHT I'M SORRY EPIC STORY TIME** 1) Pretext I gotta nerd out about this. If just one person out there finds this interesting, it was worth reading/typing I guess. I'm sorry if this may still seem like a lot of text but I think for HL(2) nerds or RPers or anyone just wanting a cheesy plot twist, it might be worth reading through it. So, ever since HL and then HL2 came out I was a huge sucker for the universe. Someone once gave me a tip where I could go in-depth into the setting with sort of RP and immersion and yadda yadda so I got myself G-Mod and checked it out, then got situated in some community that was recommended to me. 2) Journey starts So I start, join .. end up on the train station. Everything felt magical. My first time actually entering the world ... without being restricted to a linear plot in singleplayer, without being a protagonist. I wasn't Gordon Freeman, no - I was literally one of the NPCs, one of the citizens he passes by but with his own story in its own world - without Freeman popping up any time soon. And all other players filled similar roles. Some can't relate to RP but I suggest to try it out in the right setting, it can be a lot of fun. I made my way to the local apartments, got myself one, settled in. I was a nobody lost in Combine occupation. I was just relocated to the city and I knew no one. So I knock on my neighbours door and ask for ... paper. Like towels. First person I met and got to know besides some other dude I met on the street. (It gets more dramatic, just wait for it, be patient a bit longer :D) Neighbour guy and I got to know each other. We became best pals sorta. He was new too. We'd venture out into the city as basically unemployed oppressed citizens and I shit you not, in about 2 weeks of IRL time each day we met, we'd run into some sort of "near trouble". We'd witness crazy stuff but always get out of trouble just barely or so. E.g. some people we met turned out to hide in some hidden room in some bakery. Clearly illegal. The place got raided by Civil Protection when we were right then and there. We fled through some secret back door exit leading to a small back alley. Me and my pal alone we leave into the alleyway, huge secret door opens and in front of us literally metrocops have lined up some civies against the wall. But NOBODY was facing us. So with high pulse we drop down, dust ourselves off and the door closes again. People who saw us thought we just walked down the alley and no one minded us. Stuff like this happened daily. One day the heat got so much and luck run out, my friend got paranoid. He wanted to leave the city. Said our luck would run out soon. Very cryptic. 3) The escape! I reluctantly agreed. We thought they were onto us. Had to be. Was a police state right? So we fled into the canals, my pal who became more and more anti-Combine said someone could help us. I'll keep it short, journey through canals was dangerous and a bit like Gordon's journey through them but more stealth and tense than action packed. We had no weapons after all and were civies. We sneaked through many areas and nearly died a few times. We got into a station with some resistance guy and my pal moved on ahead alone, told me to wait. So I wait. Get impatient. Move ahead alone to catch up. Find him at last station chatting with actual rebel chick. He feels bad but tells me he will flee with her but they can't take me. ALL OF THAT FOR NOTHING! 4) Cold hate Infuriated, left behind, risked my neck for nothing. I went back all the way alone back into the city. Hot, then cold hate moved me forward. Miraculously no one caught me. No one kicked my door in hours or days later. And I felt disenfranchised. Nothing held me back. I hated my "pal" for leaving me behind. And his rebel band for not helping me. Classic plot, but it gets wilder. I signed up for Civil Protection. This was my new life. Was accepted and trained as recruit. Had a solid and quick career. This was my shit. My world. I belonged there. All while my old "pal" was out there, fighting for the other side now. I'll spare you a further essay and not tell you in what epic twist it ended but I'd say that alone is a pretty wild story, how to friends end up on opposing sides and become sort of enemies - and he didn't even know it. 😀

@@Unknown-ek1ox I could imagine this being a full-fledged out story. Heck, I enjoyed reading your comment. I've personally stayed away from the RP side of Gmod because of its somewhat bad reputation, but I've done RPs on Roblox and they're always a lot of fun. It's always fun to play a role in something larger even if your aren't the "main" character, and that's likely why RPs are a thing. Why wouldn't you want to challenge your storytelling and improv skills at some point? Humans love story telling. We've had many stories passed down through time like the story "The Odyssey" way before there was even written language.

@@justyouraverageperson9533 Thanks for replying! I think it got bad rep for no real reason. Well, if we talk about "DarkRP" (a custom script but also a wider term for low quality or non-lore RP, a bit like GTA-like RP) then YES, deserved bad rep. But G-Mod had so many great differently themed good quality RP servers. From world war related ones (ok those can be cringe quickly) to Fallout, Terminator, Stalker, Zombies, etc. I played on Stalker, Terminator and Zombie related RP servers too. Was fun. Anyway, to add briefly onto my story above without an essay: I had a fast career and the guy who accepted me into Civil Protection into the first place was running the civil protection intel branch - so I became an intel officer early. Eventually my task would lead me into the outlands, disguised as a refugee fleeing Combine oppression. And it's where I met my pal back in one of the most epic and yet awkward reunions. He felt akward again for leaving me behind but was sorta glad I made it out here (to Outlands) finally. And awkward for me because I hated him but had to play nice. We had some run ins over the IRL years the lore progressed and it sticks with me as a memorable RP experience I will likely never ever forget until dementia kicks in lol And just out of that story you could make a game or movie. Now picture hundreds of such stories happening daily for many, collectively. That's the fun in RP for me I guess, if you have theme or lore you like. Not much is scripted like in SP games, it's almost like endless content because any player turns into a content creator at any time.😀

@@Unknown-ek1ox Glad to hear back from you! I'm also glad you gave a small extension of the lore. I still have one question about it though. Did you ever turn your friend in for leaving you behind or did you forgive him and/or basically become a double agent? Also also, I see what you mean by a collection of stories forming a larger story, and in a way that reminds me of life in general. Each of us being the main character of our story. This also makes me think about something like making a story about a "side" character instead of the main character. Like maybe a story about one of the many mercenaries that work for some villain. They wouldn't even have to have some kind of redemption arc either to be interesting. Maybe said story could even include how they became who they are too to help the audience understand and maybe even sympathize with the character. Like how in your RP you turned to evil because you were left behind by anti-combine individuals you thought you could trust. I believe the beauty of role-playing does lie with the usually script less freedom it gives to create a story and character of your own while playing along side other people who've careful sculpted one of their own as well.
