Yea I work early usually, but I stayed up till midnight to see Oats stream and play the game myself as soon as it came out, I booked Friday off work and thank god I did because I didnt go to sleep until almost 4am. I played until I literally couldn't keep my eyes open. Then woke up, made a dope mushroom omlette and immediately started playing again.

one of my favorite things about this game is each time you see samus fight something in a cutscene, you're shown how to actually fight it - when she meets raven beak on the bridge, he uses the exact same abilities in the final fight, and samus dodges/parries them exactly like how you're supposed to 👏

@@danielcogan8205 I'm not a speedrunner myself, but I found them to be quite annoying at times. Sometimes I just don't know how to handle them, they seem to appear in the worst of places. I mean sure, you can hear them when they're near, but in some cases they would be literally in front of me when I enter the area. I'm not planing on finishing the game in record time, but if there is still stuff to unlock for clearing the game fast, yeah I would love to see that too, but the EMMI could really screw things up for me

It's amazing to see the massive improvement in Oats as he plays the game. A regular Metroid player like me improves slowly hitting something like a plateau (but still improving) after around 3-4 hours of gameplay while Oats just goes on improving to that (for me) untouchable skill level. Still not finished the game but I'm now close. I won't watch the ending of this stream until I've beat the game.

Has that feel from prime 2, just replacing the steady loss of life in dark areas with an ever-vigilant threat, both pushing you to force through as quick as possible. Great stuff.

It really is. Even after 4 months, I still run through the game. I’m currently going through on dread mode and it really refreshes the game. In this mode, you die in one hit so you have to be strategic with every boss because there’s now no room for error. Even getting from checkpoint to checkpoint is a pain. I never thought I would say out loud, I jumped into the bug again and meant it

Dude, the EXACT SAME THING happened to me. I was running around for entirely too long wondering where I went wrong. That spot just looks like a "morph ball only" slot, since the bottom block is conspicuous and looks like the only one that can be destroyed.

The game does a really good job of pushing you to the next objective. I only got stuck once, and it was like five minutes before i realized I missed a destructible block and backtracked to it.

Dude! I had the same thing happen to me when I played that part! I was stuck for ages till I accidentally shot the other blocks trying to kill an enemy.

Ehhh. Oats like many others is a Speed Runner. Speed Runnig is about tricks and strats not about deductive reasoning, not digging at Oats. Worlds Firsts in Raids on any MMO, or Destiny or any game with "Raids" are long for a reason. Everyone is encountering mechanics and such for the first time and having to figure things out.

Holy shit, I can't believe I just noticed this, but every part of the cutscene fight with Raven Beak demonstrates and foreshadows something in the final battle. * Shield that changes color as it takes damage. * Shockwave attack followed by parryable melee. * Shield goes down after being parried. * Missile that fucker.

From my experience there is not really skippable items in Dread, unlike Super. I don't like the fact that item blocks are everywhere and in even more variety than Samus Returns.

I love the similarities to super Metroid, and the playability and graphics look awesome. I do miss the music, would’ve been neat if they had it a little louder to set the moods of the rooms, also hoping to see laser shooting space pirates. Only 30min in. Hope to see them.

Yeah the music is kinda lame in this one. Honestly weakest in the Franchise so far. I don't mind not playing "greatest hits" but they did that anyways and those where the only good tracks in the game. Namely the Brinstar Red Soil (which is now officially in 4 Metroid Games I know of, Prime 2 Torvus Bog, and Samus Returns as Area 5 Sector 2 and ofc the titular Super Metroid) and Super Metroid / Samus Theme, which ALWAYS SLAPS. Compared to what came before, even by the same dev team. Man. Samus Returns may be a trash game that felt kind of like a rushed beta to Dread comparatively but the Music is just infinitely better.

I'm 34 years old and unbelievably I only made my first play through of Super Metroid about 2 years ago. This game (Dread) was so good I beat it in about 3 sittings (not much for me considering adult responsibilities now hah) and it was a blast the entire time. Got started with Metroid after seeing Oats do a Metroid Impossible run at GDQ so thanks for dragging me down the Metroid rabbit hole with you man. It's been a blast!

This is the first Metroid game I’ve ever played that actually challenged me. I’m about 3/4 of the way through my first run and I think my death counter by the end will be over 100. The bosses are the perfect balance of difficult and manageable once you learn their patterns.

Can’t believe this only came out last year. It went from being the hottest new thing to speed running, Nintendo patching it needlessly, to being just another game we enjoyed. Still, this was one of the best games I’ve played in years, patches or no patches.

I see you were not so adequate with countering E.M.M.I on your first play through, so let me hand you a fun little thing that helps me! When countering an E.M.M.I there are two possible delays before that flash. From the start of the capture sequence there is either a 3.28 second delay or a 4 second delay when countering their grab, it is a 25/75 ratio on the delay (as in a four second delay is more likely than a three point two eight second delay). However, that changes when you're only option is to counter their needle which is shorter at 2.28 or 3.28 seconds delay, this one in my experience is more closely a 50/50 so it's extra hard to judge when to counter. Additional fact - An E.M.M.I with broken face plates can instantly floor you while they are standing, but if you touch them while they are crawling it will send you into a regular sequence.

honestly my only complaint about this game is just that it was too short. First playthrough was 100%'d at about 10 hours, then speedran for about an hour and a half. So I got every cutscene, every splash art, every picture... I got everything out of the game and experienced literally everything within 11.5 hours. For $60. Disgustingly overpriced. The only way I can get ANY more gameplay out of it is to speedrun the game to go even faster.

Well it turns out you need Thoha Chozo DNA to not immediately turn into a Metroid when given the vaccine, so I don't think it would see much success.

Anyway I was just pointing out the reason the game gives for that because in that case there at least is a reason. There's always going to be stuff like that where you would think they could do something, but due to game logic or lore they can't, often with no reason. Why can't ADAM transmit in anything besides radio to get signal through the ground of ZDR? Why didn't the Chozo simply change X DNA to program them to destroy other X? Why was a tribe of Metroid controllers going to destroy a planet to control the Metroids? And the other guy was kinda right, Metroid's are bio engineered by the Chozo and the Federation doesn't understand Chozo tech, it could logically follow that they don't know how to sequence Metroid DNA and make it safe, when it can somehow take over transplant hosts. So again, there's at least a reason for that one.

I spent the first 60% of this game creeping around, doing proper MGS stealth past the EMMIs... Oats goes in, starts blasting away, and figures out that it's much better to just juke them basically immediately.

@@Rikarikun I think it's very possible. Co-OP mode could even introduce new hidden parts of game. (Simultaneous) boss fights that unlock new areas/items/endings. Something to keep the metroid community satisfied and challenged.
