[WORLD RECORD] Super Metroid - Any% Speedrun in

If I said I was expecting this, I'd be a big fat liar.
I knew I could and maybe would World Record in Any%, in the sense that I could beat Oats previous World Record of 40:36. Especially after my first 40:43 PB, I knew it was quite realistically within striking distance.
But this time. I never expected this time.
40:22 is absolutely bonkers for the level I am currently at in terms of consistency. Especially in the context of losing 10 seconds after G4 compared to my Gold.
What a wild ride this has been. I can't honestly say I will be continuing to grind Any% right this moment, but I also can't honestly say I'm done. Too close to 26 IGT to quit forever.
I have some other ideas in mind first, though.
I've been working on this category since April 2024, initially pushing for consistency for the SGDQ 2024 race, and then after that trying to further optimize pursuing a PB. This World Record definitely happened much faster than I anticipated, to be honest.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy this run got taken this far, regardless of whether it was me or you (or someone else). Bro this has & will always be my favorite game of all time! I’ll never forget playing Super Metroid with my little brother over 20 years ago when we were just young little kids. Exploring this game was the most interesting thing I had ever witnessed as a kid. We looked forward to coming home from school to get on & play! Not a worry in the world, just good ole Super Metroid & 2 brothers sitting together taking turns passing the controller enjoying the game & each other’s presence. I’ll never forget when we finally first beat the game, we had 50+ hours on our first run. We just enjoyed exploring this game so much! Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it now, happy & sad tears! I miss playing this with my little brother & now we’re all grown up & I haven’t talked to him in years, he kind of just disappeared from the family 😢 Love you lil bro, we had great times with this game & everytime I watch Super Metroid videos I think of you! At first while watching you doing the escape my eyes couldn't believe what it were seeing, i was "he's is dropping the time almost 1/4 of a minute, is not possible". And then, i came to the realization that this WR changes everything, from now on the "one round Phantoon" is a standard (unavoidable) and the places for improving, i believe, are those tiny places where there were those little input misses (watch this video for Zeni sounds). Trully remarkable, a show of talent, consistency, stamina and never giving up pays off. Happy for you Zeni, trully deserved. Wanting to watch more.

@@krsnadasafernandez7105 for most high-end SM runners, they collect 3 missiles and 2 super missiles during their run (15/10). They need these missile amounts to break Motherbrain’s glass and dmg her down to start the final encounter. This is the bare 15/10 minimum and is a little risky as you are at the mercy of super missiles dropping from the Metroids in Tourian. If you make it through Tourian and end with 15 missiles and 9 supers before Baby Metroid, you’re soft locked from progressing and it’s a reset. One way to reduce this risk is to grab 1 more missile pack before Wave Beam. ShinyZeni does this at 18:40 but most speed runners jump over the pack. So if you end Tourian with 20 missiles and 9 supers from bad Metroid super drops (which actually happened in this run), your run isn’t over. So 20/10 refers to having 20 missiles and 10 supers instead of 15/10. However, the trade off is that you have to experience the 5-second fanfare that plays when you collect the extra missiles. On the surface this might appear like a blatant 5-second time lost. But because of a lot of other factors, it usually ends up being less of a 5-second sacrifice.

as zeni mentioned after the run, the heart rate monitor sadly disconnected and was not accurate. he resets it a good 2-3 minutes after the run an is still at 120 bpm. he must have had 170 or sth on the escape i would guess
