Can someone explain what the foot pedals do here? I grew up playing the drums and the independence is unreal! But I’m so intrigued by what those pedals actually do in manipulating the instrument’s sound.
@emilyharpist3 жыл бұрын
They change the pitch of each string by half steps so you can change the key in which you’re playing! For example, the pedal all the way on the left is the D pedal, and when that pedal is in the top position all the D strings on the harp are flat. Move that pedal in the middle, they become natural, and move that pedal down, they become sharp! Hope that helps!! 🥰

So beautiful! And got me some thought about how a title can change my reception of art: Hearing this music without lyrical context, what I did first, gave my the feel like from a real good horror- or film noir-movie, while then knowing the title, the space-context changed my listening experience, like to a friendly-spooky outer space vibe. Thanx for your passion.

AMAZING. keep it up! What are your foot pedals doing? Changing tension on the strings? I'm not familiar with harps I just love how they sound 😬
@emilyharpist3 жыл бұрын
thank you so much! :) ❤️ the foot pedals each correspond to a note on the harp (7 pedals, 7 notes in the scale) so each pedal turns the small gears which affect the length of the string -- it makes the strings flat, natural, or sharp, depending on what position they're in! for example, if I put my C pedal in the flat position, ALL the C strings on the harp go flat! it makes it very easy for me to play in key (if I don't mess the pedals up of course! 😂)

This is perfect. The footwork with the pedals is something I didn't even know existed and was so well done to pull off the chromatic stuff that Metroid soundtracks gravitate to. The choice of pedal is spot-on, too; kind of wish the Astral Destiny was stereo, but that didn't stop this from having the perfect wobbly, synthetic reverb tail that screams "alien planet exploration". As a big fan of Metroid, reverb pedals, and now, the harp, I approve. (Very excited for Metroid Dread, btw)

Not kidding one bit, this was so beautiful it got me tearing up from the first notes. The harp sounds so sublime, and the pedal effect gives it an ethereal, dreamy overtone that is bound to take you away. The second verse sounds rightly eerie like the original does, since the notes are quite dissonant, but the rest gives a way more melancholic and heavenly feel, capturing the loneliness of being on your own in an hostile world, more than the scariness of being surrounded by gruesome and dangerous monsters. Maybe that's not even the intended effect, but it's what it has given me. I'm just transfixed, thank you for playing this.
