Hell, Dark Link even got a spotlight in Twilight Princess but only in an exposition dump. Would have been really cool to fight a Dark Link that could transform into a Dark Wolf Link. Oh, Dark Link was also a main villain in Four Swords Adventures around that time frame. There was also Copy X and Omega in the Mega Man Zero series being evil versions of X and Zero respectively.

The light and dark beams actually are incredibly useful and solve some of the issues you had with certain encounters. Dark Pirate Commandos for example are dispatched easily with a charged dark beam shot (which homes in and freezes them even if they're in the middle of teleporting) and then firing a missile which instantly shatters them. The light beam on the other hand I found really laid the hurt on many of the bosses in the game. The fact that they require ammo is a nuisance, but it's not too hard to come across ammo for them (shooting a cache of some sort with light beam gives a shitload of dark beam ammo and vice versa) and after a couple beam expansions (which aren't too hard to come by even if you're only lightly exploring) you almost never run out of ammo again imo unless you are using one beam exclusively (Which I did on my first playthrough since I assumed the dark beam was useless against most of the enemies in the game.,..Boy was I wrong) Another annoying enemy that can be dispatched easily with light/dark beam are Grenchlers and their dark counterparts. Both varieties freeze solid upon being hit in the back with a charged dark beam shot, and some heavy ordinance will wreck their life (Or some charged light beam shots in the Dark Grenchler's case since it takes extra damage from light beam). Aside from Ingsmashers, most of the enemies that people complain about being rediculously annoying to fight can be dispatched easily with light beam, dark beam or a combination of both. I think people just don't end up playing with the light or dark beam much because of the ammo system which is a shame because it really does streamline a lot of encounters. tl;dr I actually found myself using the light and dark beam on my latest playthrough of echoes way more than I used the ice, plasma or wave beam in Prime 1.
@Tyler-sy7jo7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'd say in terms of enjoyment I'd say I found Echoes was my favourite (I am also one of those people that appreciated the environments and really like the idea of the dark world and the ing), I found the sky temple keys were placed a lot more obviously. Every room that has a key in its dark world counterpart has a dead luminoth containing a lore entry that gives you a hint as to where exactly the key is in the room and there are no dead luminoth with red scan auras that don't mark a sky key. I actually found all the sky temple keys on my own upon realizing that and picked them up while I was backtracking looking to unlock more secrets and boost my item completion anyway. I found I got more use out of light, dark and annihilator beams more than their prime 1 counterparts. The power bomb guardian is awful though. And I forget what I did, but I did something that actually made the Chykka much less aggravating. I also liked the Luminoth being a race on the brink of extinction and how the last temple has all those hibernation pods and the feeling that I'm saving a race near extinction as opposed to learning about one that's already gone. I suppose Prime 2 was a lot more focused on exactly what the bad thing was than Prime 1. Prime 1 is a very close second though if not edging ahead a bit. I'd say Prime 3 (while still a game I really enjoyed) was my least favourite (note: least FAVOURITE) of the series because while there were multiple planets, they all felt a lot smaller than even a single zone in either of the previous titles. But I Still love all three games.

Easy way to kill an ingsmasher. Take down its shields and hit it with a darkburst. On hard mode a single darkburst takes around 66% of its health away. And since hp values are doubled for enemies on hardmode (or your damage value is cut by 50% which ever way you want to look at it) on normal it should be an instant kill one you disrupt the shield.

Metroid has had Zombies before, in Metroid Fusion. They were one of the weakest things an X-Parasite could turn into, dying in only a few hits, however they always could get back up. The dark commandos become a joke once you realize you can freeze them (like if you were using the ice beam) with a charged dark beam shot and then instantly kill them with a missile. In almost all of your footage, you're using the power beam on enemies you shouldn't. It seems you're afraid to use your light and dark beams because you're afraid of running out of ammo. I know, I've been there. Use the beams anyway. They are meant to be used. You rarely, if ever, will actually run out of ammo. Also go watch KingK and The Geek Critique's videos on Metroid Prime 2. It might give you a new perspective.

I always run out of ammo when I'm in a fight. Then again i've only played this once. But that was on easy mode (trilogy mode). I've actually just started a veteran playthrough. You never really elaborated on the beam ammo complaint, but it ties into what made this my favorite Metroid. The atmosphere. Everything from having to carefully trek through Aether's poisonous atmosphere, the dead Luminoth and Troopers everywhere, having to think about ammo; it contributed to a delightfully tense atmosphere for me. Same reason Fusion is my favorite 2D Metroid. The backtracking complaint is also odd. Prime had you go through Magmoor to Phendrana and then back again SO many times it can make one lose their mind. As you said, Echoes just makes you do it within the one environment. Prime also had several bosses suffer from going on too long with highly predictable attacks, like Ridley and Thardus. The bosses in Echoes were more varied in tactics. Nothing quite like boost-balling into a security drone or grappling to fire multiple missiles into the Chykka either. Or Quadraxis! You also didn't give credit to Sanctuary Fortress' visuals. Let's be honest here, the environments in Prime were well done but ultimately a stock fire, plant, ice, etc. world with the exception of the Phazon Mines. The Fortress is nothing like this series has ever seen, and it's beautiful. Though if you really want to know why some consider Echoes better than Prime, the Geek Critique has an amazing video. I did enjoy video though! And there's one thing we can both agree on. OMG WILL THE COMMANDO PIRATES GO AWAY ALREADY?!

Something I learned recently in a flamewar about the Fallout games: Gaming is one of those amazing mediums that has something for everyone, and everyone's brain is wired differently. The way my brain works is why I put worldbuilding and atmosphere ahead of gameplay. Some people can't do that, they put gameplay ahead of all else. Others still prefer a good story and characters, some hate racing sections in action games, etc. The problem comes in when the opinions that have the most agreement get to dictate the "rules" of what's universally good and bad. Anyone whose brain thinks otherwise suddenly become villains, simply because there are more people who think differently than who think similarly. That's how flame wars start. "Different strokes for different folks" is a fairly overlooked saying, I think. You're all wondering why most people hate the endgame fetch quests of the early Gamecube era, while those people can't understand why you like it. The point isn't to understand, since you're on different thought paths from eachother. The point is to accept, move on, and if you're willing, learn something from it.

Prime 2 is my favorite in the trilogy. It’s as immersive as the first, and the combat is so much better that Prime 1’s. In Prime, there was never any strategy outside of “purple enemies are only damaged by the wave beam”. The backtracking isn’t nearly as bad as Prime 1, where you have to go through Magmoor a million times. Of course, Echoes isn’t perfect. The backtracking still isn’t great, like in Super Meyroid when it’s been half the game since you were in Brinstar, or even just the endgame trek from Ridley to Tourian. There are still plenty of enemies that boil down to picking the right color, or just use the right weapon. But I prefer Prime 2 to the other 2 in the Trilogy. Prime 1 is my least favorite of the trilogy.

One helpful tip to deal with the Dark Commandos is that the Charged Dark Beam shot to freeze them (like the Ice Beam) and shoot one missile when they are frozen to kill them immediately. After I found that out, no one should ever complain about them ever again lol xP Granted, Dark Beam shouldn't do well against Dark enemies...but I experimented and it helps SO much!

You think the sense of immersion and atmosphere is lacking here? Seriously? The immersion in Prime 2 absolutely DESTROYS that of Prime 1. It's the game's biggest accomplishment!

AntDude, I love your videos, but there was a lot you omitted from this game. I love Prime 2 because to me, it's Samus at her most powerful. While you talked about the Light and Dark beams (which are just color variations of the Plasma and Ice beams from Prime 1) you didn't talk at all about the Annihilator Beam (which can home in on targets), and its beam combo the Sonic Boom which hits a large area instantly. There's also the Light and Dark Bursts; the Light Burst incinerates anything in its radius and deals extra damage to creatures on Dark Aether while the Dark Burst creates a miniature black hole. There's also the Seeker Missiles which allow Samus to fire up to five missiles at once, all onto one target or separate ones. I know a lot of the boss fights are annoying (the Boost Ball Guardian was actually made easier in the Trilogy because he was so hard in the GCN version) but Quardraxis was a really fun fight, and I thought the final Dark Samus fight was really cool too. I also found the end game key-fetching to be much easier than in Prime 1. The necessary rooms to visit had the text in blue to make it easy to find, and using the Dark Visor helped figure out where exactly it was. I think Prime 2 was my first Metroid game that I beat without asking for, or looking up, help.

The dark beam's charge attack can freeze 90% of enemies allowing you to one shot them afterwards with a missile. Light beam takes care of the Ing, does massive damage to bosses, and can increase the power of light crystal's fields to where they instantly kill any dark enemies that touch them. They're pretty important for combat actually. Dark Commandos get fucked with the dark beam charge missile combo by the way. In general the Dark beam is overpowered and it's super combo can destroy dark samus the second time around.

I know I'm late to the party, but the "Zombies" at the Beginning in the command centre, weren't zombies. The Ing have the ability to parasitically take over any living creature, they look for potential species with credible Lethality and strength. for example the Space pirate and the predators of Aether. they'd seen the marines, the gear and weapons they have (do to there effectiveness against the Splinters and their hive) and thought we need this in our horde. but because the things they were trying to take over were already dead, the Ing couldn't achieve full parasitic take over and use the host body correctly.

I really have never been able to agree with the opinion that the first game's world was better. I remember thinking even as a young teen playing these games that the atmosphere of Echos made the entire world a lot more believable, and thus more immersive. I remember loving how dark and serious this adventure was. The first game felt a bit too much like a bunch of separate places all stitched together with... elevators... into one world because... hey, it's a video game kids. I had a problem with Metroid games in general coming across as too unbelievable. Another example of this is the conveniently placed power ups and the order you just so happen to be able to find them in. So I'm on a PLANET and everything I need just happens to be relatively close by? Echoes came across as overall LESS cheesy and that helped me to prefer it over Prime 1.

The whole ammunition thing was very much needed with the strength of the beams. A fully charged Darkbeam is the most OP weapon against every non-boss enemy in this game because it could one shot most of the enemies (sometimes a missile was needed), does permadamage, stopped teleportation could stop ships and did everything what the Super Missile couldn´t do with his ehh hitbox. And the lightbeam was pretty much OP against every Boss (besides Alpha-Blogg) in this game because the fastes strats mostly involve to use the light beam.

Decent video. I hate to compare creators, but I'd recommend taking a look at "TheGeekCritique"s Prime 2 review if you'd like a second oppinion. His video very accurately describes why Metroid Prime 2 is my favorite game of all time. Also, AntDude needs to experiment with the dark beam more. A lot of the enemies he was complaining about can be dispatched in a few seconds.

I think the Dark and light beams have ammo because they're originally not Chozo designed weapons and when used by the Luminoth they have ammo as well, along with the Luminoth's default weapons(Whatever they may be), apparently the default weapons are Shotgun style ammo as seen by a scan log of one of the Keybearer's stating they ran out of/ran low on Slugs. The real good Metroid Lore is on the Wikitroid website, I spent hours reading info on Samus, the other races, and the equipment, weapons, and monsters of the Metroid universe.

I've seen so many people complain about the dark commandos when they go down easy if you know what to do. Dark beam and then missiles. Boom dead Dark Commando. Yeah I know it sounds weird using dark beam on a dark enemy, but I can make the argument that its about paying attention to the beam properties. It being the ice beam basically.

With the dark pirate elites you can just freeze them with a charged dark shot then missile. And with the power bomb guardian if you go all the way to the end of the track, hang over it then boost to launch to the other spiderball track

I feel you on the temple grounds, agon wastes and torvus bog. I found those areas to be pretty boring. Sanctuary Fortress however, is my favorite area in the trilogy. I love the idea of the Luminoth being advanced enough to utilize and build that kind of technology that eventually becomes corrupted. I think Prime 1 is the better overall game due to it being consistently great throughout. I feel Prime 2 has higher highs (Sanctuary Fortress, the light suit looking badass and some of the best boss battles in the series like Quadraxis and the Dark Samus battles) and also some of the lowest lows (backtracking at its worst in the series, some boring and tedious areas, some frustrating boss fights like the boost and spider guardians and waiting for health to regen in the dark world). Prime 2 is a game that gets better the more playthroughs you do. Learning your way around cuts out a lot of frustration

Dark Pirate Commandos take forever to kill? Just shoot a charged dark beam shot and shatter them with a missile.. They're so easy to get rid off. Also you only need to backtrack twice in this game: once for the seeker missiles upgrade and once for the key fetch quest near the end of the game (which I completed in less than an hour without a guide). It's not the game's fault that you don't know how to play it. Prime 2 also has a far better (back-)story than the first game. Lastly, Sanctuary Fortress is easily the most visually pleasing area in the Prime Trilogy. Much better than the bland areas of the first game.

The problem i had with Dark Aether is that it slows the game's pace down. I love that the whole dimension invokes a sense of fear and danger which helps the game's atmosphere, but in practice it becomes boring to have to run for the nearest safe space and wait several seconds for your health to recharge. Granted, it's really only a problem during the first time visiting Agon Wastes as the Dark Suit reduces the amount of damage you take from Dark Aether, which does remedy the problem somewhat.
