Okay but the fact that Samus’s childhood friends are named after one of the series’ co-founders and the NES game’s composer actually got me in the heart there.

the only thing I'd change on this amazing work is the Chozo arrival. Since they are a key part of the story and one of the most important elements in the metroid universe, the moment they land should be an epic and remarkable one in the movie (instead of cutting to their ship already landed there). That could be used as a metaphor to show their imponence, high advanced technology and greatness coming down from the sky... With that minor addition the subsequent scenes would have a whole other level of value ;)

Working the Metroid story would require some major adaption before it'd be big screen ready, for sure. So I like that we're willing to do that with this concept. But there are elements of the cannon that should probably be kept. Such as Mother Brain being a Chozo super computer, as established in the (cannon) Metroid manga, and upheld in the newest edition of the franchise, Metroid Dread. Looking at the post date of this video I don't think Dread was released yet, but the two-book manga was.

As someone who has also written a Metroid fan script, I very much appreciate the effort and vision put into this project. Especially the incorporation of supplemental material like the 2 volume origin story manga. While Nintendo might never examine a Metroid movie (or maybe they will if the Mario Movie is a hit), it really means alot that you all went through the trouble to make this. A true labor of love.

Actually making Adam more likeable than he is in the games. A truly herculean feat. Samus may be emotional, but that doesn't detract from her badassery. It's pretty much what Other M tried and failed to succeed at. Here, she filled with incredible rage when fighting Ridley, but only shows fear upon realizing just how close to death she was against him and that he's far more deadly than initially perceived.

I feel like if Ridley needs to talk, it should speak in a fictional language (similar to the Star Wars prequels). I imagine something like the voice of the space pirates from Metroid Prime. Like that, he would be able to talk and screech seamlessly. Otherwise he might not sound intimidating. Bonus advantage: when localizing to other languages, his voice wouldn’t need to be changed (only the subtitles)

This is amazing, the story, the family and friends Samus has and loses, and just the pure brutality of Ridley. Seriously why is Nintendo making a Mario movie when we have people making fantastic stuff like this. I mean just think, with a proper budget, cast, and an expert animation studio this would probably be one of the best video game movies made. This concept honestly deserves more attention in my opinion, and hell the potential for a sequel is there with the Baby Metroid story following this one. And hey if it doesn't work as a film maybe an animated series following Samus in her early years as a bounty hunter. Again the amount of effort and passion put into this idea is amazing, I honestly hope to see something like this become an official movie one day as I don't think this series gets the attention it deserves.

I normally never leave comments but I'm going to be hyper critical in an i hope constructive way cuz i would love to see this be as amazing as it could possibly be Starting right at the beginning, an entire squad of scientists standing over the Metroid lile in the concept art, looming and looking over it, all studying it, is a little, like, weird? What are they doing? Why does it require so many of them? Also the first line about survivors, which, while it could definitely make more sense given the scene framing of the actual movie, through this I have no idea what they're asking. No surviving Metroids? Other scientists? The description seems to imply other humans have died to attain this Metroid, or have recently died due to something else. So like, has the danger stopped moments before the viewer begins the movie? If that's the case, the entire beginning bit before the space pirates arrive is coming across as super calm over anything else. If their colleagues have just now died, I don't think coming in on them stamding around is a very fitting start. Still on the beginning scene, it's overexplained I feel. I don't know if we need Metroid background info just yet, and if we do, it's very awkward to just have some scientists conveniently explain exactly what it is and what it does and what it's used for to each other. If it is indeed a calm, peaceful scene at first, I think a better way to frame it would be like, a casual conversation. Like, "It's unbelievable just how much this little creature could do for the federation," though maybe not exactly those words. If it's not a calm scene, then I can't think of any context you'd be explaining the benefits of a Metroid other than desperately trying to convey it to someone who doesn't already know. A shot, dying scientist begging Ridley that it could change the galaxy for the better before he does...y'know, what Ridley would do to someone begging him for something. Also over an explosion immediately interrupting them, I think it would be more effective if like, a ship flew past the window, (which would be a little weird for a lab to have i suppose) prompting alarmed or confused dialogue before the explosion hits. Could also see a sensor start beeping, showing approaching targets. Maybe in a less calm scene, the scientists straight out don't notice it, too focused on what just happened. Also now that I've complained for 8 years, I do really like the Metroid movie starting on a Metroid. It's neat, and bringing in Ridley early works! I love the establishing shots of the colony, showing everything the viewer needs to know about it early on, it's advanced scientifically but also peaceful. And I love Samus saving them from the sledding debacle, fun to call back to later on. Scene with her parents and neck breaking dialogue are good, it's fun and clever and shows they care. Getting critical again, what are her parents doing? I ask because if some other character has to come tell them about Mother Brain, it implies thry were either not working or working on an entirely different project. That said this is an extreme nitpick and I don't feel it's too important at all. I definitely like "greeting mother brain before assigning it tasks," as well as them explaining it excitedly. I feel like the best way to dump the info on whats happening here is with a passionate scientist, talking about their work with genuine enthusiasm, especislly since they're telling Samus, assumedly. (Maybe she's even heard them go off about it before, complaining they do this every night?) With the Chozo, I really like their age, extinction, and motivation to give their dna and continue their legacy coming up because of Samus' youthfulness. I think that feels super natural, given she just got scolded for it by her parents. That said... Animated or live action, I can not think of any possible way to make Samus cry because someone she just met has a dying race look at all normal. If you're trying to make her super empathethic it works, but I dunno, it just comes a little out of nowhere. I can't picture any child just hearing that and starting to cry. That said, no ideas on alternatives, so...shrug. It is really really amazing to have Samus bemourn how alone they are, given what's about to come. Tragically and beautifully ironic, just good writing. Really love the idea of cutting to the Metroid flopping around free with a Space Pirate nervously edging away from it. Ridley threatening them is great too, but since it's with his tail, I feel like whoever's in charge of making that tail look threatening will have their work cut out for them, haha. It has to be designed in a way that looks like it could kill a space pirate easily, while also being long, attached to Ridley, and something he can freely move around. Ridley dialogue is good, though i could see someone being like "woah he speaks english???" Tho thats an even smaller nitpick. A bigger one is that Ridley says what the beginning scientists do but like, much more efficiently. Feel like one scene or the other should be changed to have less repetition. Think second Samus scene should definitely have something dark going on. Overcast sky, maybe one dead tree in the background, slightly faded grass, something to say this won't be as happy a scene as last time. Also if it's a new day, give them new clothes! This isn't targeted at the concept art, just saying in general. Text popping up with a new date is awkward and stiff, but a completely different outfit combined with the new dialogue efficiently says it. Will say the violence and attacking of the colony comes kind of suddenly, like, mainly that pirates are suddenly on the ground raiding moments after firing, dunno how to do that naturally. Nitpick again tho. Her dad's body, Samus' mom saving her, Ridley talking to Mother Brain is all soooooo good. Dunno how you would convey Samus' mother remembering the ice weakness. Everything here from adulthood is just Good 0 complaints from me. The 10 years later is something I wanna nitpick but I won't haha More in the replies because i wrote too much

Think a potentially confusing scene of the mission and new characters is very nicely rectified as things play out, leaving all questions answered. Do have the nitpick of Samus's policies vs the federation's being laid out just a bit thick, but again, idk how you'd change it. I like the flashback to Zebes a lot, but once more I wanna whine incessantly about the text, but it gets the job done over finding some super perfect way to not be confusing without it. Morph suit materialization might bother fans but i think it works. Morph ball feels a bit awkward to bring up but its saved by a Samus shudder. So, about "accept the past," I'm not crazy about her dialogue here First, "it's all i ever think about," is a little, like, depressing? If you want to make Samus' character arc as obsessed with this event, through direct revenge or just a life goal to fight against, that's fine, but if the goal isn't to make her incredibly driven and utterly focused on this one specific thing, which I think will narrow her as a protagonist, then it feels off for her to hold these policies when she's surrounded by these wise philosophy gushing chozo 100% of the time. I don't mean to imply she can't be traumatized by these events and seriously affected by it but "its all i ever think about" paints a picture of pure misery that i dont think reflects everything about her. If the point is she stops being miserable by the end of the movie, I don't really notice it in her actions, because even before she overcomes loneliness and accepts she's never alone, she's still able to have postive moments with the Chozo when this scene takes place, and later with Ellem afterward. I'm overthinking it a bit but I just think, like "I can never forget it" communicates the tragedy without implying everything in her life is awful. Also think her going into detail, yelling about exactly what happened, saying "my parents are dead, Ridley killed everyone I ever cared about," (how does she know his name?) and elaborating in general is unnecessary. I don't but that the character is driven to this by anger, given the scenes that just took place. She seemed fine, able to have a moment of levity with the morph ball line. Also like, 4 years after the event, I don't get why she feels the need to yell at Greyvoice about it. It's not exactly fresh, he's well aware, and the viewer is well aware too. I think it's better just to say "it's all I ever think about," and no extra details of the event if this is the character route you go down. However, I do think the "i'm all alone" stuff works much better, and makes sense given that she apologizes after. It suits the themes of Samus becoming this solo fighter. Adam scene works, but I'm really not sure about the "lady" segment. Not as in "if its good" but "what he means." Like, I'm assuming he's making a point about gender, but like, what he says next doesn't seem to have anything to do with gender? Unless he means lady as in like, a noble woman, which kind of makes more sense but is still not clear. Ellen talk is very good, complicates what couldve been a simple, static character. Bit awkward for Ellen to explain who Sylux is in the context of "They just see him." Maybe like, if she said "him again" or "stay out of his way," letting her tell Samus he's a brutal, strong, capable bountyhunter, which Samus can then still follow up on by asking abouy bountyhunters. I think this also adds to her character, showing that she's driven and focused, ignoring everything she just heard about Sylux to ask about the thing that she decides matters to her here, bounty hunters. I really like the "they fight alone, it's a hard, cruel life" followed up by a Samus scoff. Hand also stopping from touching Ellen is good, and I think Samus' lament here is also well written and appropriate enough. However, the video talks about their relationship and Samus' forwardness, which isn't shown in the dialogue. I don't believe this is a problem, but I also don't think those specific details are communicated if that's the goal. Flashback I enjoy, all good to me, tho Ridley's pretty wordy for a guy about to kill three old people. It goes just a bit over merely boasting. Otherwise fantastic segment. Another nitpick, three flashbacks are A Lot. I do really like that Adam saved his brother though, just showing Samus that even among others like her, she's still alone. Transition from Ian talking to Dying seems sudden but assuming that's just the format of a concept video like this. I like Adam outburst a lot, once again making a simple character more dynamic. Once on Zebes, I'm confused on how you'll convey the dead bodies she's finding are bounty hunters, given the weird shapes of space pirates. Not too much of an issue tho. Ellen death good, and Samus dialogue doesn't feel cheesy given the severity of it. Only problem is that morph ball joke comes pretty quickly after, haha. Think it's still effective to just have her be stunned and panting after she comes out of it. Think her clinging to the wall would be an amazing action scene, whole thing is good, tho Kraid bleeding might look weird. Information dump from a computer is fine enough probly, but only concern is how you'd do it. Like, a computer voice, or? Is it just like a log a space pirate made? Ridley stuff is fine, tho I don't get why she removes her helmet? Like, does it dematerialize? Also obvious duel loneliness of samus and mother brain is good, but i also rly love that they're both Chozo. The Chozo were trying to leave their legacy in what was supposed to be this grand system, ultimately becoming this creature of evil, only for that legacy to be carried on by Samus instead. I don't have much to say about the latter half. I liked it all and I'm not really familar with critiquing action scenes, so I'm goong silent. Overall, I think it's really solid and faithful, in my limited Metroid knowledge. I hope this is helpful and, if it isn't helpful, thst no one on the team ever reads this, haha.

Humanizing Samus without making her insufferable Is a really though act, but you mostly nailed It. I think Adam should be a bit more stern, especially how rash and aggressive she was toward this character at times. But these are just small criticisms, overall It was a wonderful translation of the lore from the series. This version of the Chozos were perfect and drove home the point why she has so much respect for them.

We got Brie Larson, who just wishes to enter the role of Samus for real this time, and not that she'll be bragging about it, but she does look the part too. Next, there is Steve Blum, whose voice would be ideal for the main antagonist. Just mix Starscream with Anti-Venom (both of which voiced by Blum in the 2010s), and you'll get Ridley's voice. Luis Bermudez did make the role sound intimidating, and I imagine he was making a Steve Blum impression while doing this, so I can't see any other choices besides either Bermudez returning to voice him in the actual film or actually hiring Steve Blum for the role for real. You tell me. Eileen Anglin was a strong choice. Too many people want Sigourney Weaver for the role of the supercomputer, now depicted as being a pawn on Ridley's part. Please, have someone else do it, she's been through a lot, give Weaver some space for breaths. Anglin would make a good soundalike, for Sigourney Weaver buffs. And then, there's the crew, starting with cinematographer Claudio Miranda, as he would make a panorama out of Zebes and a claustrophobic look for the Brain chamber. Miranda would do both wide and narrow, for inspirational and emotional. And last crew member to recommend is composer Danny Elfman. Not only would he be a favorite choice of mine, but also that he has done some intensely wild scores for action, scifi, fantasy, and everything in between, as well as being a frequent collaborator with Tim Burton, who's best known for dark-toned films. So Danny Elfman would be a good win for a composer for Metroid.

This sounds really good, however I feel like there is a bit too much dialogue, and that too much of Zebes take place above ground. I imagine a Metroid movie more like Castaway, with little dialogue in the main part of the movie. But of course that's the beauty of it, everyone has their own ideas.

In another interpretation I imagine Samus in Zebes infiltrating the pirate base, surviving and besting the pirates using her skills but also the knowledge of the terrain that she gained as a kid, since she was raised there.

Overall great job, I really like the third act, I think you have done a great adaptation of the lore. Making the technology of the power suit linked to spirituality is the way to go, the Chozo are like high tech Jedis. I do think there might be things to polish in the way the story is told, stylistically speaking. Also the repeated pirate attacks and Samus escaping could be a tricky thing to pull off without being seen redundant. Also a lore aspect that could be explored better is the space pirates themselves. I would advise, maybe just as an exercise, to keep your lore intact for the most part but tell the story from a different perspective, or starting at a different point in time. Maybe you don't need to explicitly touch on everything you have.

I saw the list of movies in the planned phase 1 for Nintendo Cinematic Universe (NCU), and Metroid is one of them. If this is true, the voice actors in this video should get a spot in the movie. Just send this video to Nintendo, and see if they approve it.

I'm honestly neither surprised or disappointed you left out several minor enemies and boss from Metroid Zero Mission such as the ones in the following list: 1. Charge Beam Beast 2. Acid Worm 3. Kraid 4. Kru Giru 5. Imago 6. Ridley 7. Mother Brain 8. Ruin Test 9. Mecha Ridley They were after all minor enemies with little to do with the main plot.

Elevator pitch: I think Metroid Prime 2 would be the best game to base a movie off of. And you don't necessarily need Metroid Prime 1 for context. Prime 2 kinda works on its own. And what's really great, is you could have an awesome B Plot about the Federation Toopers and their fight for survival. Told through video logs, and dialogue from other characters, like the Luminoth or maybe the Space Pirates. And it works to put the viewer in the shoes of Samus who's trying to uncover the whole thing... JUST like the game!! That cutscene of the Federations Last Stand against the Ing, is one of the most epic cutscenes in all of Metroid! Make a movie out of that! There are so many details in the world to scan, that you could draw from! The Federation Troopers are working with outdated equipment and bad leadership. The Space Pirates are opening portals to Dark Aether in the persuit of power, and dealing with the ramifications.. like corruption... Oh! and Dark Samus! And The Luminoth have largely sealed themselves away in Cryo Sleep to not get corrupted. Leaving only holograms, as a last cry for help.. Praying that a hero will emerge! Samus realizes she has to destroy this shadow entity corrupting Aether. Not just because she's stuck. But also because it could consume all life in the universe! ... And because the Luminoth remind Samus of the Chozo...

This artwork is incredible and there are some great ideas here, but is it just me, or did you just retcon Metroid 1 by giving it the Other M treatment? Samus is a tad bit whiny for my liking, and the fact that she isn’t even a bounty hunter yet upon arriving at Zebes I don’t love. Fantastic project though!

I think Samus being whiny demonstrates that she has plenty of room to grow, meaning, it's a good thing. After all, the best characters are those who have flaws and improve them over time. She is still young and hasn't matured yet. It's a fantastic start I'd say.

Nintendo is pretty awful about throwing Metroid fans a bone, especially with direct plot like this, but you guys nailed it! Excellent work, very happy to be a fan of both the series and you guys!
