The "electrical tube" that's shown at 4:15 is porcelain/ceramic which is why they used it as an insulator to prevent electrical wires from sparking and igniting when they were routed through wooden studs and/or walls. It's kind of obvious, but I figured I'd add the little tidbit in case someone was curious or just didn't know.

I have been to this Ghost Town many of times. I know the area very well. One important fact about this town that was left out of this documentary is Bishop Creek Dam. The Dam shown in this documentary was the lower retention pond (where the old, weathered bridge was." Farther up from that pond/stream area is the real Bishop Creek Dam. It can be seen via Google Earth. In its day Bishop Creek Reservoir was a marvel.

My family didn't buy land in paradise valley arizona for 2 dollars an acre because of the lack of water. To them, South Phoenix had better farm land for about 100 an acre. So they bought by the river bottom, now the clearance for the airport. That was in 1925 and 1928 when most had moved to Arizona from casper Wyoming. They got sick of the wind and Prarie fires they felt with as share crop farmers in the Dakota territory before moving to casper wy.

Cool little ghost town. I visited in 2001. You could still swing on the monkeybars (sorta) at the old school. Some of the neighbors like to dump trash there, so not everything you see is an artifact of the old town. It would be a hoot to leave a statue of Superman in the middle of the night.

Why did a LDS town need 5 saloons?
@theoztreecrasher2647
@theoztreecrasher2647 Жыл бұрын
Presumably for the same reason that all religious fanatics need a way to get money out of those that they consider inferior. The saloons would "cater" to folks like the railwaymen and other non-Mormon workers and the Church funds would not leave the town.

6:32 -- Five saloons to serve a population of 700 people, the majority of whose faith prohibited the consumption of alcohol. Who were the customers? This makes no sense. Let's say that 40% of the population was non-LDS. That's 300 people, or a maximum of only 60 potential customers per saloon.

Isn't comical about humans thinking that whenever they face a problem the solution is to just kill off the object of their displeasure. It never dawn's on them that this idea doesn't work.

I dont think it's fair to call it a "scam" really. It was a viable plan, and this was a period many communities were being built around massive irrigation projects (most notably the Imperial Valley). Also Mormons had been doing just this sort of thing for a half a century, so they were experts at it by this point. There WAS available water for their plan, it just so happened that other nearby communities won priority for that water.

A sad story, maybe one day, alternative energy forms and available methods water resources could offer an opportunity for the city to emerge again. All desert cities require innovative energy and water plans, conservation and environmental awareness. As more minds awaken, thought maturing expands, we can be much wiser caretakers of this beautiful olanet and with our realization of the value of the "Universal Law of Attraction" + our Power of Thought Energies, we can man8fest beautiful things in Harmony and with Wellbeing for ourselves, nature, and the environment. I just know, these values will be shared and our Human Mind are/will continue to evolve, together with the plan of Infinite Intelligence, amazing experiences are on the horizon. Best Thoughts ...
