Eloy already signed with Tampa. If the goal is to actually improve the roster and win then Luis Robert offers exponentially more to the roster both in the field and at the plate. He’s an GG, SS, and AS. Assuming the Mets actually want to try and win a WS and assuming they resign Alonso or pick up Vlad. Adding a player of Roberts caliber would most likely be required to be able to beat a team like the Dodgers in a seven game series. Soto is a great foundation. Now the Mets need to finish building the walls and put a roof on the house.

Mets really blew an opportunity to get Cody Bellinger for CF. He's an elite OF can play Excellent at 1st base and most importantly is an amazing athlete and provides that much needed lefty bat. Also Joc Pederson with Bellinger would have created a murderous lineup against Righty Pitchers. Marte could have been your Righty DH and a fourth outfielder. This was so doable considering how little the Yankees gave up for Bellinger plus you're not stuck with him on a ridiculous long-term contract. Ryan I truly believe the more athletes you can have in the lineup the more long-term and consistent offense you will have. Offensively you want guys that can go 1st to 3rd 1st to HP & 2nd to HP on virtually any basehit. Defensively running those balls down in the gap especially with runners on. Speed and Athleticism pays dividend like it did last year for the Mets and more so for the Dodgers.

Most top relievers remain unsigned. Also if Diaz is back, now 2 seasons removed from a devastating injury, to something like his 2022 form and Nunez is healthy they’ll be about the best back end of a bullpen in MLB. With that said I 1000% believe the Mets will sign at least one more proven bullpen arm and very possibly 2. I have faith in the Mets pitching lab to get the best out of Montas, Peterson who was really good last year after returning from his hip injury, and Clay Holmes as a starter. With Senga and Manaea at the top of the rotation this can be a very good rotation. Not elite but very good. After what they did with Severino and Manaea theirs reasons to be optimistic. If Sasaki picks the Mets this rotation suddenly could be elite this season. For all the talk of the Dodgers pitchers they literally all have had massive arm trouble issues within the last season. Everyone talks about Ohtani coming back to pitch like it’s a forgone conclusion he just comes back and is an Ace. Based on what? In 2023 before getting hurt he had an FIP of 4.0 and this will be his 2nd TJS in six years. The Dodgers have no clue what he’ll be. Sprout will start the season in AAA and depending on how he pitches he could be in Queens as early as June. Even a guy like Canning has solid stuff. Wouldn’t shock me if he can be turned into a very good back end to mid rotation starter. Oh yeah…..the Mets still have all their prospects so trading for a starter if one becomes available is definitely possible.

If the Mets pass on Alonzo, the ONLY option would be a trade for Vladdy. Yes, he would cost some prospects, but if Vladdy becomes a Met he could more than likely be extended. In 2022, his best year, he averaged over 7 innings per start. He had TJS in early October 2023 so by spring training he’ll be over 16 months removed from his surgery meaning he should be ready for opening day. If he’s even 80% of his old self you are getting him at a very team friendly contract the next 2 years, 17.3 million per year (11.2 in terms of luxury tax as the deal was backloaded) and a 21 million dollar club option for 2021 with a 2 million dollar buyout. I want to support this channel but at this point you’re just engagement farming. You’ve talked about more players to keep an eye on than there are roster spots for 4 teams. Think quality. Also can you interview specialist who have leads? I don’t know how you got this channel but it’s clear you don’t have any real sources and you get things from google and Twitter like we do. Bring on some people. Not sure how you’re on Locked On media but you’re a glorified fan and that’s cool but I expect some actual journalism on a Locked On platform

Disagree. I like this channel for Ryan's analysis of reports and what the Mets might do. He gives useful context to what's going on. Not all journalism is about breaking new stories, and that world of exclusives has its fair share of bullshit mixed in.

They’ve had the highest payroll in MLB the past few seasons and just got done giving a 26 year old future HOF’er a 15 year contract worth 805 million dollars. They resigned a 3 WAR pitcher from last season. They’ll be getting back Senga who when healthy in 2023 was a 4.5 WAR pitcher in his first season in MLB. lol at the idea that they “do nothing”.

@ You clearly are not a fan of the Mets. If you were then you would know that $174M of payroll last year was not on the team. The roster last year was middle of the pack in payroll when you remove dead money. They signed Soto and then have done nothing else. This is a 75 win team at best with this pitching staff and no protection for Soto. He will be walked all year and stranded on first. Stearns had not put together a pitching staff that can compete on the major league level.

Pete's worth $100+M no doubt. His stats are comparable to Olson, Freeman, Walker, etc. He's not Gold Glove but is adequate defensively (NO ONE IS KEITH HERNANDEZ). Only 8 hrs behind Judge, good rbi total, OPS average above .800, slug% .500 or better. BA has been low, should be, .260 - .285 (He's golden if he hits .270-ish). He's not a sprinter, but not the slowest Met either. He wants 7yrs/$175-$200M-(high ask)... Mets offered 3yrs/$90M-(low ball), Mid-way = 5yrs/$145M. He can play 1B so, Vientos develops @ 3B, then Pete transitions to DH if a "younger, more dynamic 1B option" becomes available. Lastly, he's a "fan favorite," will set every team batting record and has a chance to hit 500 home runs, as a homegrown Met. That's possibly HOF. He's worth at least that much.

Finally a realistic comment on a Mets channel. Soto was a vanity project for Cohen. If money was no object Burnes and Fried would be the top 2 starters on the Mets. Any fool who tells you stearns would rather take bargain bin starters instead of 2 aces is ridiculous. When money Is not an obstacle who cares what you pay these guys and for how many years. You only care when salary is a concern.

@@ddsara6566 They're not done..... they know they don't have enough yet...... they'll make a trade for prospects before long..... they have too many grade B and C prospects that Stearns is looking to move. He knows not all of these kids are in their long-term plans. He didn't get Soto to sit still after that. The bullpen will be tightened up with multiple additions and I don't believe for a second that they're looking to move Vientos to first base. Stearns isn't going to gamble on a move like that.

@@7taino is money no object for Cohen or not? When they signed Soto that’s what we heard. Money doesn’t matter to Cohen. So if that’s true are the Mets better off with Burnes and Fried in the rotation or with Montas and Holmes?
