this fight needs a remaster, it's not the worst thing ever but looking back, it really isn't that balanced in some areas. now that we know that the whole point of spamton NEO was to give players a proper NEO fight, this could be redone to be around that difficulty

specifically the color memorization with the sword is a bit too much, it's just asgore's trident attack but worse, the like, waves that come out of the bullets are kind of unfair and can sometimes just be undodgeable if you get unlucky, the 4 way shooting just doesn't look enjoyable in the slightest, and... a mechanic that literally just forces you into taking damage is dumb, even if you can just heal to stop it. the thing with official undertale/deltarune fights is that no matter how challenging they are, they always still feel fair and balanced, and fangames often tend to just throw that out in favor of "harder = better" without much thought as to if the fight is FUN or not. challenging and fair can coexist, even sans feels mostly fair, but a lot of fangames just... aren't. and I know, people will say "you just have to get good at them" but if a game isn't fun to me, I'm not going to keep playing it long enough TO get good at it. it has to feel fair enough to where I feel like I'm actually able to improve and get better and that half of it isn't just RNG

It was never scrapped. NEO was originally always meant to be 20 seconds in length, and Toby extended it for Deltarune. Eventually, that became Spamton NEO.

Okay so i played the game. Beat it after dying 28-29 times. From what i see sprites are decent, the fight has fairly creative attacks, and bleeding concept and your button choices changing place because of feeling dizzy was a good idea. The damage per hit dealt is fine but this is not a real problem because in vanilla UT genocide both Sans and Undying are very punishing with their damage (especially Sans when you consider KR). The invincibility frames after getting hit by is short, but this is also fair enough. Whatever, i think the real problem this fan-game has is MASSIVE balancing issues. Some of attacks are easy and even straight up free, some of attacks are hard but challenging, and some of the attacks either require EXTREME luck, god-like skills andreaction, or straight up both. Several attacks are nearly impossible to not get hit without being very lucky. Which is a problem with a boss fight that can easily kill you in few hits even in max hp. I feel like if attacks would be more consistently difficult this fight would be better. If i must be honest i wouldn't prefer this fight being in vanilla UT. There already is Sans and Undying, you don't need an another boss that is literally even harder + also very luck based. Because if this fight was in the game this means either you will gonna fight with this with no heal item or sans with no healing item which would be just torture for an average player.

Idea for the Mettaton NEO fight to actually work in the game: This fight is hard, so you probably used all your ITEMs, so in the sans fight the ACT button has an option to heal you random numbers of HP, so it's still "unfair" but not impossible

I do like this, but I personally think the attacks are a bit... slow. Its not very hard, which isnt a huge issue, but the attacks feel sluggish. Simply having more on screen might actually help (as in, earlier telegraphing but faster moving attacks)

You can make a fight that is not so hard. For reference in the fangame UT Yellow genocide route (SPOILERS) you have a fight with "mettaton" of the game before you face with the actual boss. The "mettaton neo" fight in the game has difficult attacks (and 1-2 of the are borderline unfair) but he takes only 1/8 of your full hp per hit and the fight is extremelly short. Toby could just make a fun boss fight that you might die 1 or 2 times but outside of that not difficult and won't gonna make you use a lot of healing items.
