this is lovely, so liberated from the source yet so familiar. despite the rock instrumentation, there’s such a lightness to this that works so nicely and I especially enjoy the harmony choices, particularly in the verse sections, and also that calming bridge-y section is beautiful. keep up the great work 🥰

I remember me and some friends planned on making a fangame, and we had set up a theme similar to this, it had the exact same vibe too, but unfortunately when we were gonna release it plans fell through due to a loss in the group, but seeing as I still want to get the game's story out somehow, why not in the comments of a song like our song? And, it's even the section when it plays, treated like how the moment was scripted out! Btw, for context, this game had full on cutscenes, like we had 3 of us on animating these anime-like cutscenes. This game was in the works since about 4 months after Sw/Sh released. Francis stood there preparing for the most important rival battle of his life. His journey through Elrin was over, but the start of his Kalos journey was right in front of him. Blocked, by his only friends. Kai and Kenji stood there, waiting for him to move. "..." The silence all too familiar. Words echoed in his mind, things taught to him by everyone he knew. Sanji who specializes in Fairy types, the 4th gym leader in Elrin: "Sometimes you'll get discouraged when your goal is right in front of you, and yet you're being pushed back to where you started. You just want to drop down on the floor and give up. But you can't, because everything you worked for, your dreams, your life, is right in front of you just out of reach. The farther you push, the closer you are to them." Parker, the 2nd gym leader, specializing in dark types: "There's going to be some evil folks out there... but you can't let them stop you. One thing I learned, is you go cold, and you show them you won't put up with this. And you just say 'You're either by my side, or you're in my way.' That gets them on guard, or gone." Eric, specializing in Ice types, the 1st gym leader: "Arceus made me and my pokemon tough for a purpose. I've faced some great challenges. You were one of them, even at a low level. You have potential. Don't waste it." And finally, his teacher, Red. "Words are unnecessary. When the going gets tough, when things get serious, wasting your breath on a word of challenge can be useless when you can prove yourself a greater challenge by raising your pokeball." Francis stood there silent as he pushed his glasses up, and looked straight at his opponents, unfazed. He raised his pokeball, not saying a single word. Kai grinned wildly, sending out his Sceptile. Francis responded with a simple throw, unleashing his only pokemon, one that he knows will win him the fight. Lucario.

I feel two layers in this song. On one hand the lower one which matches the more deffiant original theme and the upper one which is much more emtional in nature. The mix of the two is sublime I say. This is a good night alright.

It's Episode 24 of the anime adaptation of Pokémon: Galar the manga. Our protagonist, Marnie, is about to face off against the big antagonist, Officer Delis, and during their epic exchange of dialogue and attacks, with everything on the line, the full credits theme begins to play and give you chills.

1, 2, 3- and bang! That little subversion with the fourth beat being the drum is really cool, and WOW what a way to make a new introduction for the song. Changing the main melody so that it’s syncopated giving it this extra really groovy feeling plus that crunch from the electric guitar on the first beat of every measure. Very few spoke “remix” to me in the sense of a song really channeling the spirit of the arranger into the piece more than the beginning of this song and my fingers went to the like button when I realized how hard this song was going to go. And then the song starts for real with this sort of chiptune-y kind of sound (that sings to my soul). I really like the sound of the instrument you used for the intro, I have no idea what it’s called. I’m a music geek, not an expert, but I’ll just call it a synth for the sake of convenience (even though synths make a large variety of sounds). I say I really like the synth because at 0:24 the chiptune sound and electric guitar take a back seat with the light percussion being there to just keep the beat practically speaking. And the drums pick back up at around 0:33 to help bring the chiptune back in again, and then they add this very low-sounding muted guitar that probably feels super satisfying to listen to just by itself. 0:48 the electric guitars start crunching again, and y’know this is a relatively elementary concept in the realm of music artistry but this build in tension via the addition of instruments is a technique that I really really appreciate (Of course, I also appreciate single-instrument songs and songs that don’t have a sense of tension. Ethereal and pretty stuff suits my taste very well). This tension works really well because the very beginning of the song already introduced us to these instruments, so the beginning acts as a sort of promise to the audience that we’re going to be hearing those songs again, and with such a bombastic intro, letting the listener breathe after what was likely a very sudden headbanging session is very cool. Kinda gives you that “ooooo I like thiiiiis” feeling and then 0:57 that screech that brings us back to intensity. Literally commands your attention back to the song, if your attention span is too short for your mind to daze off somewhere else in the clouds. In terms of this song representing Marnie as a character, this is really well-done. The original song is just super dance-worthy all the way through and it highlights Marnie’s want to do Pokémon battle, which is all we get to know about her character during Sword and Shield’s run time which is unfortunate but hey, it represents what we know of her very well. This song also does that with the electric guitars and aforementioned chiptune sound, but then we have the relatively relaxed portion of the song which I think represents Marnie’s calm and gentle nature. That’s the part I really like about me. Her fashion and her fanbase doesn’t exactly suggest it but Marnie is a very chill person (the kind of person I would love being friends with). It’s a very interesting juxtaposition that is well-represented in this remix. Of course the song isn’t gentle for very long, this is supposed to be a battle track after all. There is an exclamation mark in the title of course you’re in for a wild ride! 1:58 is when the song’s gentle nature shines once more before the “final act”. Here is when I’ll say that I think that the instrument I’ve been calling a “synth” is some kind of muted piano, which is a sound that a synth makes so I suppose I’m not too far off the mark XD. It sounds so calm and sweet, I love it. I also really love how well you utilize using instruments that lead into another one, namely the drum to muted electric guitar here right before the song picks back up again. I don’t want to name every single specific point I notice a cool detail I like, since it kinda takes away from the listening experience of other people, finding those things for themselves. I’m just pointing out what I really really like and how I feel listening to this both mechanically speaking and thematically. I would love to see a music-making stream from Mewmore one day just so that I can see how they use their tools and learn from seeing the process. I really want to make music for myself but I just don’t know how to make a specific sound or where I can digitally find and use a certain instrument. They’re sounds that pop up in a lot of songs I like but they’re too specific to the point where a simple Google search can’t help me though. Then again, Mewmore’s channel, not mine, I don’t run things lol.
