(Opinion) After yersterdays game you really see that the Mexican sooccer level is falling down harshly. Cocca put Henry Martin a player who wasn't in top form over Santi Gimenenez who was in top form in Feyenoord. He made changes after the second goal, which he should have done at the start of the second half. In the two previous friendlies the main squad had mostly players that weren't going to participate in the Nations League or Gold Cup instead of playing the main squad for those tournaments. During the interview he just made excuses. In Argentina if they would have lost 3-0 against Brasil, he would have been kicked out from the coach position immediately, but it seems he is going to stay. Most of the US players are in top teams on the bench or subs but even then they beat us. (Soultion) We as fans have more power than we realize. For starters "STOP GOING TO THE GAMES. STOP BUYING THE MERCHANDISE" We as fans need to veto the Mexican federation because its apparent they only care about money. Pass the word tell all your friends and family memebers, in person or social media to not attend the games or buy the merchandise. If one game (upcoming) third place Nations League (Mexico vs Panama) no one goes they will lose thousand to millions of dollars. Only then they will realize things need to change. For the Gold Cup don't go. They should at least make it to the final, but after this game I doubt they will even make it there. This is not a one man job if we want things to change we need to gather in numbers to veto the Mexican Soccer Federation. The best performances of Mexico have been with Mexican coaches (Confederations Cup - Manuel Lapuente (Mex), Copa Sudamericana - Enrique Meza (Mex), Olympic Gold Medal - Luis Fernando Tena (Mex), Olympic Bronze Medal - Jaime Lozano (Mex)). Some of the worst moments have been with foreign coaches (7-0 Juan Carlos Osorio (Col), Fifa World Cup 2022 Gerardo Martino (Arg)). The feredation puts coaches they control and tell them which players to go on the roster. Its easier to control a foreign coach since they don't care as much as a Mexican coach. If not then don't complain that things don't change.

Some fun facts from the video that may need a maybe incorrect explanation: The "Gentlemen's Agreement" is basically the anti-transfer rules of football. In normal football market, if your contract with a team ends, you have the option to renegotiate or leave on a free to a new team. In Mexico, the Liga MX owners made an extra "secret" rule that if your contract ends with a team and you want to move to another team in Liga MX, the new team must pay a fee to the old club as if you're still employed to the old club. If that new team doesn't want to pay the fee, you are either stuck with playing for your old employers or move out of Mexico and play for a foreign team since they can't charge them the fee. If you return to play in the Liga MX, the fee will also return. This obviously harms any youth player looking to break out as clubs who have academies basically have 100% of the power over their careers in Mexico. The Morelia incident was that Monarcas Morelia, an almost 70 year old club at the time, were planning to move to Mazatlan, Sinaloa. The team were owned by Grupo Salinas, who has the third richest man in Mexico as the chairman. The move was basically because Mazatlan is a popular tourist destination, especially more due to the show Narcos, and that the Sinaloa State government offered them a $600 million pesos package that includes the construction of the new stadium. Despite a pretty big protest march, the relocation went through. The city of Morelia was without any football team until the COVID-19 pandemic where they were offered a team spot in the new 2nd division Liga Expansion MX, a second division that has no relegation system from Liga MX and a promotion system so strict, it might as well not exist. A new ownership group bought the rights and logo to Monarcas Morelia and became Atletico Morelia, the team's name before the rename in the 1999-2000 season. After this video, a new proposition was sent by Liga MX owners to vote on. Which is the usual talk of brining back pro/reg, ending multi-team ownership, reducing foreigners in the league and other usual talk but no walk issues. Afterwards, the said chairman of Grupo Salinas, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, has also tweeted his ideas to fix Mexican football. The important stuff was that he also wanted to close Liga MX and introduce "Financial Fair Play". These points went down like lead as people realize that the Liga MX owners really want to be Mexican MLS. It also really didn't help that in a press conference, the new president of the Football Federation, Alejandro Irarragorri, basically said stuff that can be shorten to "No pro/reg because the MLS is very successful without it" and "Get Ready To Learn American Buddy!". Lastly, Mexican Football is getting dunked by every other Mexican sport fans such as baseball due to Mexico reaching wbc 2023 semis or Basketball due to Mexico finally making the FIBA World Cup.

why would they go to "Europe" when they are paid well in Mexico? What needs to be implemented is a Mexican financial fair play equivalent where salaries are capped at a certain amount. And the "best players not being played" is a decision largely by every manager. How was Oribe chosen over chicharito 2014, Guille Franco over chicharito 2010, chicharito himself over Raul Jimenez in 2018.

@@dnick91095 The reasoning against "Why would they go to Europe if they are well paid here?" goes like this: In modern football national teams are filled with players who play in the best leagues in the world, and it just so happens to be in Europe (La Liga, Premier, Serie A, Bundesliga, although Lige 1 is not really that good). Every top country in the world often sends their young players over there to improve and have the chance to become a powerhouse, the more you send the more likely you get those players for your team. What happens in reality is that Mexico is not really known to export players from a young age, as a matter of fact players often debut at 21 years old... which by that age they should be around their best years, then add the fact that a lot of players in Liga MX are South and Central Americans (Which by itself it ain't a problem, the real problem is that Liga MX has a ridiculous low foreigners cap, some teams can have as much as just 2 or 3 Mexicans at a time... in their own league). The last resort they had to keep this balance of having a medium good team was participating in Copa Libertadores and Copa America, but after some scandals the Mexican federation decided not to play in these tournaments, so not even the "best" local teams can test themselves against the best teams in the continent. There is another factor, which to be honest I also personally think it's true: Football in Mexico has started to become more about the business, conformity, not trying to reach new heights and just doing the bare minimum, a promising player staying in Mexico instead of going to Europe is basically saying "I don't care, I don't wanna test myself against the best". It doesn't help that clubs like Tigres and Monterrey have this fascination to take back all Mexicans who were playing in Europe, or trying to make a young player stay at Mexico with a good contract. It's really weird, in one end there's nothing wrong staying in Mexico if you get paid good, but at the same time Mexican people WANT their National Team to be among the best, if not, the best in the world. And the only way to have that is sending the best players overseas to learn and improve. Sorry for the long text, but it's a complicated situation, I personally want more people in Europe among the best teams to represent us.

@@dnick91095 there is contracts in place that can force them to stay even if out of contract, the clubs are working together to keep the current system as it is which kills the ability of poorer kids to get in good systems where typically the best talents are found. The money isn't like it's spectacular, it's comparable to Brazil which has no problem getting it's talent into Europe. You look at the current Mexican squad and the player quality isn't that good, especially if they want to play at the knockout levels.

I agree with you on the corruption part but México's mentality is also huge reason why they're so mediocre. For starters some players prefer to stay in México since they'll be treated like a star, can get away with mediocre performances since the media will always ride their meat regardless of how bad they play, in Mexico managers aren't as rigid as they are in Europe and that's turn off for them since they won't get away with their off the pitch bullshit and have to prove themselves worthy of being a starter, and lastly Mexicans in general are very conformist and are happy with very little.

Another problem is the short tournament format in Liga MX where 12 of 18 teams pass on to the "playoff" stage, so basically all 18 teams are alive for almost every week of the tournament. You can be absolute trash for 13 weeks, then win a few games in a row to end the regular season, and be well on your way to a championship if the cards fall your way.

This means that by the time certain Mexican players do get exported to better leagues, they're wildly inconsistent and not accostumed to league formats where you MUST turn in results on a week to week basis or your chances of a successful season go down the drain.

Actually, my friend who is big into soccer and he also was trying to get into soccer when he was younger told me the exact same thing. If you do the long season like say England and everywhere else pretty much you have to bust your hump on a consistent basis and what also happens is that you have to give the use, their time in the field. When you do the short tournaments, what happens is like you said they can play like crap for most of the season and then kick it up a notch so they can make it at least to the playoffs but the other thing is that the youth cannot be given a chance to get better. That’s also the reason why they’re always contracting players from outside of Mexico.

Excellent analysis indeed. I do agree w all points, and particularly the one about “players mentality” not being a real issue. There are all types of players in every country, perhaps there may have been some in Mexico’s NT who may have been there just to enhance their egos. But for the most part, Mexican players are first great Mex fans, they want the team to succeed and make it a championship contender. However, when the system is broken, individual desire is not enough to create a positive outcome, and energy, youth and talent can only go so far. It’s the system that needs to change.

Yes, I agree, China has the money to do it, but it has not produced the best soccer players like South Korea and Japan. China has no soccer program like its Diving, Swimming, and gymnastic sports. They import some of the best African and European players, but the Chinese players could not pick up the challenges. So, it will be mediocre for a decade in the future. Indonesia has an excellent program, but as you know the Asian people are not built like Westerners or Africans who are taller, stronger, and more physically built like those two world soccer players. Japan and S. Korea are good because they have a youth program and are physically fast and agile.

you forgot several huge issues such as the way TV Rights are sold, Sponsors, the Player Pool and the amount of Foreign Roster Spots, Youth Academies, the role of Agents, Lack of high-level opportunities, not identifying Dual nationals quickly enough, the Competition Format (Liguilla promotes mediocrity) and Pro-Rel, the disappearance of Copa MX, Lack of solid professional structure past 2nd Div. Also, it’s hard to watch MX League games because you need about 3,000 different streaming services to be able to watch games as opposed to the MLS where all the games are on one streaming service (Apple TV). Every team in the MX League wants a bigger cut of the pie which in turn hurts the league

Great video. Despite all of Mexico's issues they have usually been the best in CONCACAF and IMO that has been why there has been no real change. I think if the USA starts to prove they are a tier above Mexico or if Canada begins beating Mexico in Gold Cup/Nations League, pressure will begin mounting and changes will be made. I'll add the level of managers and youth coaches. They lack preparation and are isolated to new trends and ideas. Most of them are former players who are there because of legacy rather than actual merit. Then u20 prospects are relegated to an u20 League. Because lower tiers have terrible level (because of the closed system) and because of age restrictions. (No players above 25 can play at the 3rd tier of FutMX for example). I am a fan of a Liga Expansión (2nd tier) and it is effing frustrating how a few monopolize Big Sporting decisions(don't think corruption is the right Word) just to make money at the expenses of people's passion and dreams. It sickens me TBH.

In Women's soccer, CONCACAF is more competitive than CONMEBOL. 6 CONCACAF teams have qualified for the 2023 Women's World Cup. Mexico did not qualify to that world cup because the coach back then made terrible mistakes and possibly the corruption from Mexican soccer affecting Mexico Women's soccer team. About the CONCACAF issue, it is being hyperfocused on Men's soccer.

@@money1bil Nah it’s far worse than that. Most of the players that won the 2011 u-17 World Cup didn’t even make it to Liga MX 😂. Like op said, only one or two members of that squad are still active and are on the bench for a Liga MX squad. Any other team would have made 5 or 6 world class players out of that team, but Mexico couldn’t even make them professional players after they proved they were the best u-17 squad in the world. Mexico has the talent to be world class, the problems are all institutional and bureaucratic. Like most of Mexico’s problems, too much corruption :(

The my opinion this is what you need to do as a country to win the World Cup: 1. Strong passionate ⚽️ culture. ⚽️ is Rey in your country. 2. Large Population 3. Great player development 4. When the stupid coach took out Giovanni Dos Santos, That's what allowed the Netherlands to come back. I got mad love from Mexico and I wanna see Mexico shine too just like the United States But if Mexico keeps going the way they going Don't be surprised if they be like like Italy and eventually don't be qualifying for World Cup.

A good friend of mine, who is from Mexico City, pretty much spelled out Y the Mexican league is losing its luster against the US and the MLS. He thinks that the US team as well as the MLS are actually pushing for much better as far as infrastructure, player, development, player, development in Europe, and hiring old players to the MLS. The last point as he stated was that these old players are leaving little schools meaning they are teaching the guys over here in the US tricks of the trade if you will. other than that, what you have are levers meaning people who have connections you also have Daddys kids who are playing and sadly they may not be the best players compared to their own dads and lastly people with money. Three years ago a new league was started, which was very short, and it was called the football league, and they were planning to use any person who had talent and be open to using them and not abusing or taking advantage of these young kids.

If you spoke to my friend, he would tell you everything that’s wrong with the Mexican league and I can guarantee you that you would just pray that the Mexican league would collapse. Do you wanna know how bad the corruption is in Mexican soccer? Like in 2019 the new president came in and he was planning to make a lot of reformations and cleanups in Mexico. One of the things he definitely did was he stop giving money to Mexican TV stations and because of that the money sort of stopped flowing. It was in 2020 when the unthinkable happened and the second division was ceased and it became a developmental league rather than a promotional league Like pretty much the rest of the world with promotions and relegation’s. Think about that for a moment. Money would stop coming in and now they stopped and I mean the owners did away with the relegation so that their teams would not fall if they were ready to go into the second division. Among other things, like I said, it is rocked with full of corruption.

Mexico and America have a lot of the same issues when it comes to developing players. The big clubs are spread out over a massive area, leaving many dead zones where kids with potential to develop into superstars don't get access to the resources required to go pro. In both America and Mexico, academies are for profit, meaning for the most part you pay the club to teach you, unlike in Europe. The difference between the USA (and to a lesser extent Canada) and Mexico is that they are willing to let their young players leave for europe, whereas Mexican clubs often refuse to let their players move abroad. While it does not work out for every player, there are many American and Canadian talents that benefitted from moving to european academies at a young age, whereas a mexican wonderkid with similar potential would not usually have those opportunities

I'd say the Liga MX is the primary reason for Mexico NT being unsuccessful. Corruption is extremely important too, but you can have a great, successful team despite corruption. South American teams are an example of that, do not believe that everything is perfect in Brazil, Argentina or Uruguay. But they do, contrary to Mexico, send tons of players to Europe, who then play in the biggest clubs with the best coaches. I'm not Mexican (I'm Polish), but I fell in love with Mexico (and obviously its sporting teams) as a 6-year-old kid and I've been watching it closely ever since. Liga MX is great, I adore it (vamos Necaxa😉), but it's too cozy for the Mexican talent. If they go out, it'll change. More Guardados, Chicharitos or Márquezes and Mexico will get a WC medal despite all the mess and chaos in the country and in the federation. Vamos el Tri! 🇲🇽

Great video!! I would just disagree with your position of mentality. Players aren't forced to sign any multi-million dollar contract. Players should want more for their careers, and they will choose to settle. Also, Mexican culture makes it hard for the players to want to leave mexico, their families, the culture, and being a "star." There are two simple reasons for ANY team to not be a soccer superpower: 1) the main reason is the level of competition to drive good players to be better. In CONCACAF, we are not a challenging league. We don’t rise to a level to make any team here do better. 2) linked to #1; a development program that encourages world class play. No one is truly trying to find the best talent, create a huge pool of players and give them resources to develop a real program of making players better. It’s all money money money, and not real training, scouting, finding quality coaches, etc.

But Fifa wanted 9 weak national Assiociations rather than one big one with some clout. Mexico were ranked top 10 before the World Cup in 06 and competed well against Germany and Argentina in the confederations cup in 2005. Also making two copa america finals prior. Competing in libertadores, copa america, sudamericana is when Mexico were at their peak. Once they pulled out from all south american competitions is when this downfall all started. So I do think competing against the south american teams did help to a certain extent.

Bielsa actually would have been a disaster on a national team level of coaching. He’s extremely overrated by clubs like Leeds as they don’t see how much harm they caused their club. They actually think of him as some god coach for Leeds and to this day don’t realize the damage he did by setting them back with his ways of playing with small squads and not wanting to recruit younger players into the PL2 squad etc…. His system also would never work on a national level. Never ever ever. On a smaller club level like a the Championship where players are desperate to achieve getting into the PL, they will run through brick walls but once they arrived in the PL that level of almost insane conditioning and commitment on the pitch goes out the window very fast.

Mexican soccer will never be fixed unless the federation body starts cleaning house and starts a reformation of the structure of the federation. There are too many competing business interests that want to fight for power to control the Mexican soccer federation. These interests are preventing Mexico from having a serious and competitive professional soccer league that can compete with leagues around the world. The league to full of bad decisions like eliminating the descension and ascension of clubs from the first and second leagues and making the 2nd division league part of the first division indirectly without being able to truly ascend to the first division for teams who win the 2nd division title. Mexico also needs better youth development systems in place since it seems young players after the U17-U21 don't get many chances to show their potential to attract competitive European teams.
