Prefer my pan dulce with té de canela. Maybe strong, high quality coffee sometimes. No instant. In my family, the generation above me likes instant. Yo no. Marranitos (even though these lovely ladies hate them 😆) and conchas are my favorite. I like vanilla or chocolate conchas. But I’ll always have a special place in my heart for pink. When I was little, my grandfather would take me to the market before breakfast on Sundays and he would get that one special pink one, just for me. My parents never knew. And now I’m crying. Anyway, sometimes I like an empanada de calabaza if I want something different. Oh, for people unfamiliar with pan dulce there is a large variety. Much larger than what was sampled here. Try them all if you are someplace where you are able. Enjoy. Feliz Navidad.

My favorite pan dulce is the concha -you can dip it with hot coffee, and hot chocolate without any sugar or milk. In the Philippines, we also have pan dulce but they are different like cinnamon rolls, palmiers (orejas), spanish bread or senoritas( sweet bread filled with butter, bread crumbs, sugar or cinnamon powder), mantecada (kababayan), kalihim or lipstick ( this is a sweet bread that has regular bread on the outside, and some kind of bread pudding with red food coloring on it). Most of the recipes are either in Spanish, Portuguese or French influences. Then when Americans colonized the Philippines - tasty or a loaf of white bread came to be a popular choice for sandwiches or any filling you want.
