Mexico is holding its first French film festival in honour of Spanish born director Luis Bu�uel - who did most of his work in France.
French actress Catherine Deneuve and Mexican film legend Maria Felix are guests of honour throughout the festival.
The festival is aimed at strengthening cooperation between both countries for future joint film productions.
Mexico's first French Film Festival has kicked off with the participation of French actress Catherine Deneuve and Mexican film legend Maria Felix.
The festival is in honour of the great Spanish director Luis Bu�uel.
The event was organised by Unifrance Film International and the Mexican Film Institute.
Catherine Deneuve starred in Bu�uel's film "Beautiful by Day" and other movies shown at the festival's inauguration Wednesday night.
The festival will feature Deneuve's latest film "The Thieves" by French director Andre Tachine.
For Deneuve the film is a "super-production" which she hopes will be a major hit at home and abroad.
