I've had mine for about 6-7 months and I keep debating whether or not I should sell it. It's a very strange sounding headphone and I still can't properly describe it. I think the lack of mid-bass really unbalances the sense of everything else. It sounds inside-out? Maybe? The sub-bass thumps harder than any other planar I've tried and the low low-end does comes across like a dynamic. But the bass also sounds divorced from the mid-range and treble and the mid-range seems to be overtaken not by the bass but by the mid-treble emphasis. It's a very strange combination because I wouldn't call it V or U-tuned, and it's not honky or shouty. For some music it just sounds wrong and I keep struggling with a source pairing for it. It may be that I lack the kind of gear to bring out its full potential and make it sound as "complete" as my other headphones. Ergonomics are stellar, the build in general is probably my favorite for any headphone up to 4k USD. Resolution is really impressive as well as is the isolation. I prefer it to any ANC I've heard. I just don't know how to get the most our of it, I don't think I'm going to find a "better" closed back headphone for the price I paid (1k), but hell I think I prefer the Meze Neo to it. It's not that the Neo is the better headphone so much as it's much more consistent track to track. It doesn't reach as high as the Liric in terms of resolution and character but it also never sounds completely wonky, like the track has imploded or is being played through a paper towel roll. I can't figure it out man.. seems to be happiest running from a Questyle M15 (balanced) of all things but that leaves me with no mid-bass. Sounds wonky on a Lyr 3, on an EF400, the Mojo 2 works well enough with it but doesn't seem to have the ability to drive it to its fullest potential so the soundstage comes across as narrow. It sound really well-driven on a JDS stack but again - no mid-bass. EQ also doesn't seem to help either. I probably should have grabbed a Z1R in retrospect. Appreciate the video, apologize for the essay, it's a great headphone some of the time but I prefer a more broadly applicable can. I lean towards keeping it just because my head is more comfort with it on it than otherwise.

I agree… synergy matters greatly with this headphone… I like your inside out description ha. On some of my amps the same music tracks completely fell apart on the Liric… so far my favorite pairing is the TT2. That being said the Liric really is a beautiful headphone and does seem to work best when not trying to pick it apart ha. I think it probably like most planars loves high current amps not necessarily high watts

Z1R is great, but I sold it after I got my ZMF Verite Closed. I now have both the ZMF VC and Atrium Closed. Depending on budget and goals (portability, etc)... if you want the "best" closed back, ZMF is currently the leader in _all-around_ closed back performance, especially if you want a "more broadly applicable can." Z1R's tuning isn't ideal as an all-rounder.

I personally strongly preferred the Verite Closed, Eikon and Focal Radiance but for a Meze product I thought it was okay. Second hand market prices aren’t bad so for those prices I think it’s a good headphone.

not a surprise that VC is better 💪 but yea Liric is kind of portable even if I would not use it like that since its expensive 🤷‍♂

I prefer the Liric over say the Focal Stellia but the VC exists and can be gotten used for $1600 and it absolutely sounds better. I will say though Liric has the huge benefit of being much more portable.

What is VC? I'm more of IEM person lol trying to look for more a portable TOTL headphone over the ear lol
