@TheAxe4Ever3 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but I think a lot of the difference between amps that I like (with upper mid aggression) and amps that I like that lack that “certain something” is what’s driving the power section. EL34 tubes. The SLO 100 utilizes 6L6 tubes and this I believe uses EL34’s. Now, there may be more to it with the preamp section, but it’s just funny that as my taste has changed in tone, I found my favorite amps use EL34’s.
@belligerentamateur3 жыл бұрын
Power tubes only play a small difference in most high gain amps. What you're hearing is just the voicing of the amps you like as a whole, being different than the 6L6 voiced amps. There is a difference, but it's pretty small in the grand scheme.
@TheAxe4Ever3 жыл бұрын
@@belligerentamateur Yep. As I said, I’m sure their is more to it in the preamp section going on. But I remember one time hearing Lee Jackson say that when an amp is designed, they will voice the preamp to optimize the response coming from the power section and which tubes they use. He said although he had a hand in designing switchable EL34 and 6L6 amps, he never saw the benefit in that because depending on the preamp design, it would invariably sound better using one type of tube or the other. It’s freakin’ amazing how much thought and electrical engineering goes into designing an amp. To me, it’s genius level stuff. But hey, I’m just a guitar player. What do I know? I have all I can do figuring out 6 strings let alone 7 or 8. 😂
