get a tear in my eye....almost all the real great jazzmusicians and singers are gone, of course there are good j.musicians today, but this era with ,MF,Basie,Ellington,B.Rich,O.Peterson, and many, many more was really something extraordinary and special - R.I.P - to all of them

Canada's unique, magnificent gift to us in the USA and to the Jazz world was the supremely special Mr. Maynard Ferguson. He had that swagger when moving on stand with the beat, that I found just "uptown-super-funky", to quote those old-time jazz musicians when were raving about some piece of music they had heard and liked. But, yes, Mr Ferguson was gifted with the talent for playing jazz music at its very best. We Loved the guy, the one and only Mr. Maynard Ferguson.

i was fortunate to have seen MF 68 times, and have one of his played horns, which was a wonderful gift! he always gave it his all whenever i saw him! what a privilege to have seen him and been around him during my teenage and college years! incredible humble showman!!! love live MF and his passion for music!!

One thing about Maynard....he'd stand around for several hundred bars, then launch in pitch perfect for 3 notes on the edge of trumpet range. Perfect every time. Unreal...plus he toured with amazing players. Saw at QE early 80's...every player in town was there....

Unreal for sure. Amazing!

Да, не случайно этот канадский трубач Мэйнард Фергюссон в молодости был прозван "стратосферным", благодаря своей блестящей игре на трубе в верхних регистрах. Игра юного контрабассиста тоже впечатляет. Спасибо

I got to see MF a couple of times as a teenager in the 70s. I got to see Buddy Rich and his big band a couple of times as well. Oh, and even Stan Kenton in his last years. All three continued to re-load their bands with young guys, some fresh out of high school. These bands could swing hard. Thanks for posting.

And what a talented bassplayer, such feeling at so young age!
Фергюссон потрясающий трубач. Возраст ему не помеха...

Big challenge-play in Maynard Ferguson’s trumpet section then come up front to do a solo. Peter Olstad swinging hard here.

MF - блистательный трубач, манеру его игры называли в те прежние годы "стратосферной". Ну, действительно, в верхних регистрах звучание его трубы неподражаемо, я так считаю.

Does anyone know if this song is part of a CD or DVD that the Orchestra put out? Based on this song alone, I'd love to have the whole concert! Magnificent!!

Unfortunetly No. Aired live on "3sat" a German/Autrian/Swiss Television Network. Swiss Jazz Fest in Bern 1991. Maybe in their archives.

I recall that his name is Nathan Berg -- he was featured at an IAJE Convention one time, and then a short time later ended up in this band.

ev dallas that's basically what a band leader does. It may seem pointless, but sometimes the band need a reminder especially if they have to play from memory. Plus it reminds the band of changes that could be made during rehearsal.
