I have this antenna controller also on my Tarheel. However the other option is a MFJ-1927 auto tuner that works with the tune button on most radios for HF and 6 meters. You may want to give ole Richard a call about it. The problem I had with the MFJ-1924 was it would lose it's memory and forget where it was and when I push the up button it would go down and visa versa. So then I would have to reset it and reprogram all the bands and frequencies. The MFJ-1927 works like a charm.. Thanks for another video...

Nice video. Helps a lot. I'm new to ham radio but highly experienced in electronic fabrication. This is going to be fun.

Eric, What I have done is matched the memory channels on the radio with the numbers on the controller. So If memory channel #1 in the radio is 80 meters, then memory channel 1 on the controller is for the channel in memory #1 in the radio. Quick way to do it while on the move in the vehicle. Gives me a quick spot to start with. Thanks for the video de W0HL

Hi. I had this exact set-up for the last 2-3 years in my Land Rover. Just last week the controller (actually the Ameritron version) just refused to count my Tarheel II and lost all settings. I have upgraded to a Target Tuner (West Mountain Radio) which tunes by SWR as well as manually as required. Let's see how long that lasts but so far it is really very cool. Just talk and it tunes. Great video as always! 73 Tom M0RMY

I've been using a Tarheel 75A antenna for over 10 years but never needed an automatic controller. The UP/DOWN switch is all I need to switch bands in just several seconds. I just move the coil and listen for the highest level of noise. 9 times out of 10the SWR will be 1:1. Sometimes I need to bump the switch up or down again to fine tune it. I really don't see a need for a controller.

My MFJ 1924 failed too. going to send it back but I'm getting good with the manual switch. Not the first time I have been disappointed by MFJ....

Curious on bands like 80 and 40, will tuning the Tarheel antenna be resonate with tuning it with the controller to one “spot” like you show for 20 and 10?

I had one of those controllers after getting bumped a few time in my truck the buttons stopped working . other then that it worked well with my Tarheal and FT857

Is there anywhere we can go so that we can get a list of products you use because I want to get a 7100 and set it up like your stuff because I know it works

Was the wiring plug and play for the Tar Heel??

Did the mfj 1924 come with a 4 pin molex connector that fit the Tarheel molex connector? Also, did you have to change any settings for the antenna to return to home?

I picked up the ameritron version for my diamond screwdriver. I just use it to get in the ballpark, because God knows it couldn't find the position again on its own if it tried.

I have similar setup but I use the TurboTuner. And I just hit the tuner button on the radio.

How does this combo do on 11m thanks I'm just starting into the hobby and still want to be able to do 11m along with the hf bands going to probably get a yaesu ft891
@HamRadioConcepts2 жыл бұрын
Works fine on 11 just have to adjust to find the resonant point on the antenna.

Eric...The Tarheel works so well attached to your truck, can you think of any reason why it wouldn't work as a base antenna? Up on a pole, and with sufficient ground, I can't imagine why that wouldn't work.....especially for someone with limited space to erect a traditional base antenna. Thanks, and 73 :-)
@andrewevanoff11925 жыл бұрын
It will work great as a base antenna but get the longest model of a Tarheel available, rated for the highest power. It'll be a lot more efficient. Mount it at a ground level and install as many radials as physically possible. Radials length is not critical at ground level but try to make them at least 9 ft long and as many radials as possible. Top whip should also be as long as possible. A long whip with a capacitive hat will further improve efficiency. The whip can be replaced with a longer wire that goes up in a tree. Bend it 90 deg. in the middle (or towards the top) if necessary. Don't expect miracles on the lower bands with a shortened antenna but it will get you on the air better than a mag. loop, loaded gutters or an attic antenna.

The only tricky thing is adjusting the backlash in the menu. Sometimes it gets it wrong and is not repeatable. It gets you close tho.
@ne2i5 жыл бұрын
You also need a tuner plug like what W2ENY sells much more convenient to tune.

Question for you. How long is or is there a cable that goes from the Tarheel out back to the controller at the drivers seat?? In the process of putting MY 7100 in my Jeep Wrangler...

Hi Eric, Great Video as usual, I have a 7100 and an LDG IT100 Could this drive the Tarheel ? Not sure though 73 Pete VK3TQ
@tivowillieb4 жыл бұрын
No. If you have a Tarheel then you don't need the IT100. You tune by moving the antenna up and down, which shortens or lenthengs the radiator. Therefore you don't need an additional tuner. 73
