You skipped a VERY important line in the license fees section. You said "I don't know what that means." and skipped ahead. The next sentence in that paragraph said that Hogan gets 25% of all non-talent specific NWO merchandise. So he's getting 50% of all his merchandise (which is just insane. Most guys were lucky to get 10%) AND he's getting 25% of all NWO merchandise that does not have anything to do with Hulk Hogan (plus the giant fee he got just for wearing the shirts). So he was getting paid for his own merch and the merch that was not even his. If Hall and Nash had the same deal when it comes to NWO merch, that means WCW only kept 25% of profits. They then had to split that 25% between all the other 100 members of the NWO. WCW was making NOTHING off all that merchandise. What horrible business dealings. The company brought in dump trucks full of cash for years, but it doesn't look they were able to keep much of it at all considering what Hogan was getting plus Hall, Nash, Bret Hart, Savage, Sting, and Flair were all getting (not as much as Hogan I'm sure, but still a big chunk). Jesus....

"Hogan gets 25% of all non-talent specific NWO merchandise." What makes this crazier is that this contract was signed the same year the NWO split into NWO Hollywood & NWO Wolfpac. It's especially not a good deal (for WCW) in 1998. When Hogan jumped in 94 and when he turned heel in 96 he was a game changer for WCW and arguably worth whatever it took to get him, but by 98 I'm not sure he was still providing that much value, and likely didn't have much juice to go elsewhere. Vince certainly wasn't going to pay him like this at that point.

So now it's very easy to say "this was so stupid. Hogan was working without contract for monthes when he signed this new deal in may 98. He met Vince multiple time in public places (retaurants, clubs, stadium skyboxes) during this period of free agency. WCW was afraid he would jump, they had to give him what he wanted to stay. Note: As Bruce Pritchard said, Vince showed in public with Hogan just to make WCW panick and allow his old friend Bollea to obtain the perfect deal. At this time, Viince didn't really need Hogan and he wasn't willing to pay him millions as WCW was doing. But WCW didn't knew it was all show, they though that Vince & Hulk inking a deal was a real possibiility. In final, WCW just gave Hogan what Hogan wanted.

Hogan had the final say on these matches.. Smdh.. Hogan did bring enough sponsors and enough exposure to wrestling. His turn to the darkside was great for business. So i get that but having creative control on how a match goes... No company should ever risk that and it explains why Hogan put over Billy kidman it was in his contract to be reasonable about it so he went with Billy of all people just to be an @$$... Bischoff had nothing to do with the contract, it was Turner Entertainment talent relations that negotiated all deals over a certain dollar amount, and those people had no idea how wrestling works behind the scenes. It was a recipe for disaster, but it wasn’t Bischoff’s fault.
