Hi David, thank you for posting this, I am a long way off looking at my engine but is very useful to know and when the time comes may follow your gearbox guide too

Glad it helped, David.

Don't forget to also drill out the main bearing shell, you don't need to drill the crankshaft journal.

BL could have just upgraded the crank to five main bearings, but of course, they didn't.

further things you can do is to pin the crank float shim using screws of the same material and shot peen the connecting rods. balance the crank with flywheel and clutch assembly together and use tri metal bearing shells. these things including along with the oil passage drill out will make a flawed engine a bit less nerve wracking.

Good points made Nicky, however I'm happy with a standard engine it will be used as a Sunday driver and at 70 I'm happy to drive at a more sedated pace. I remember driving these cars as a youth the fun is in the driving experience on B roads here in the UK. I wouldn't want to go far on the motorway, and unless you intend to do some track days the engine is strong enough now the oil galley has been done. Crank thrust washers to limit end float is on the to do list, David.
