MG Midget Blowing Smoke - Fixed!….I Hope

If you watched my other videos you have seen that the car blows smoke at certain times. I installed an inexpensive oil catch can, purchased from Amazon for $38, which seems to have helped.
Time will tell if this is a long term solution. Either way the plugs aren’t fouling at the moment, which is awesome!

Hi, The catch can does seem to have helped. It continues to collect oil that would otherwise have entered the combustion chamber. It’s an easy thing to try at least. Good luck with your car.

Hello, this means you have too much pressure in the crank case, check the charcoal canister to make sure it flows if not John Twist has a nice video on how to refresh it, or you have too much piston blow by, worn piston rings, you can check that with a leak down tester witch is quite inexpensive but you need a compressor. Thanks for the suggestion, it’s a good one. I have refreshed the charcoal canister before but it was about 1000 miles ago. I’ll give that a go and see if it helps.

I'll have to take a look inside the charcoal canister. I tried a leak down test but the engine kept trying to turn over. I can't find anything to get down and hold the crank pulley. Any tips on what to use? I'm also running fairly high oil pressure at idle, around 60psi if my gauge is accurate. Thanks again!

@@johnathandavis7056 Have a look at some of the videos using a leak down tester, the engine should not turn over the maybe you are putting too much air pressure inside the cylinder, try selecting a gear after you position the engine for the cylinder you are testing that should stop the engine turning with the handbrake on, another way to stop the engine turning is removing the starter motor and with a special tool lock the engine, 60 lb is not too high when the engine is cold on a fresh rebuilt engine i get 70 to 80 lb, good luck
