For me, it was love at first sight when I saw this kit on the shelves and it's been 15 years now! Let's see how well it holds up, and is it the best version?

It's absolutely criminal that they haven't made master grades of the Geara Zulu and its variants. Like Bandai loves to use moulds over and over but they didn't decide to make a kit of the best looking Zeon grunt suit that has multiple versions and colors ? Insane. I'm hoping that since they're updating the Sinanju Stein maybe we'll get to see some Neo Zeon suits getting mg releases - a man can hope at least. And maybe they'll give the regular Sinanju some of those updated parts

Love when you do these reviews on older kits. I believe you always give fair and objective assessments, so I know when you say that an older kit "still holds up" I wont regret buying it.

The OVA version has the gold water slides too. There's also decals on that sheet for the Unicorn's V fin.

This was the first MG I built (and after coming back from a 15+ year hiatus from building no grade 1/144 wing kits). I had a really hard time with the waterslides but it was still really nice. I have since bought another OVA MG Sinanju using custom decals and I fared much much better there.

The "Weird shoulder armor mounting point" is actually really ingenious. For any poses that require both arms without completely removing the iconic shield. It's not meant for the static standing pose. My Sazabi Ver ka is posed holding the rifle and glaive with the shield mounted to the shoulder

My second ever MG kit after the Deathscythe... It was so much bigger than the puny little Deathscythe that I thought for a second I'd been ripped off and my Deathscythe wasn't 1/100 scale. It's also the only kit that I ever picked up based purely on how it looks, rather than knowing anything about the series its from. Its only been six years since I built it, but there's some level of nostalgia to this kit for me. Despite the amount of kits I've built at this point, I really do still consider it peak MG. There's just something about how the frame is designed and how the gimmicks work that make it unforgettable. The only thing this kit needed was to look as sharp as the RG looks out of the box, but I think stability wins out in the end - at least I can blow the dust off of this one without worrying that the thing's gonna fall apart.

On the topic of the Sinanju, hopefully Bandai updates the RG Sinanju in the future (a 2.0 or even a 1.5). It looks good but won't hold a pose. A better inner frame would help.

I've built the OVA version, and one broken waist joint later I can affirm the issue is not solved there. :D Don't be complacent like me guys, sand down that peg a little before fitting it in.

Man that frame is squeaky. Also I could be mistaken but I think the PS frame on the OVA version is significantly darker, so color preferences might be another reason to consider the Ver. Ka

There's no change in the waist design in the OVA version. Only the ABS material changed to Polystyrene

While I love my MG Sinanju OVA, one thing I absolutely hate about it are the hands. The OVA let's you build that overkill rifle-bazooka-grenadelauncher combo but the pegs on the hands are so terrible that it can't really hold anything with significant weight. I tried doing the box art pose of the OVA version way back when I built it but it was impossible without extra external support like an action base.

Sorry, you mentioned that this kit gets reprinted from time to time? I read on the Gundam Wiki Fandom that it was discontinued after the OVA version. Similarly to the previously reviewed Unicorn ver. Ka. Maybe I haven't been here long enough, but I would be delighted as a ver. Ka fan if this ever does get reprinted!

I believe this kit has been reprinted since the release of the OVA. And the Unicorn VerKa has just been or is just about the be reprinted I believe because I think we’re expecting some in at USAGS, which means Bandai has them available.

So for the notorious waist peg, instead of filing or sanding it, why not lubricate it? I use hair conditioner products, I use these on plastics that has high load or articulation, I also apply these when playing with a rubics cube. Small amount, smells good, not sticky or slimy. Have you tried these on gunplas with tighter joints? I tried checking forums online but haven't gotten any info if this trick can be used or corrosive to gunpla. Wanting to know your thoughts about it.

I’ve not tried! My concern would be how the product may affect the plastic and/or paint over time if it was painted. I guess you would try to use only a very small amount. So it probably would work I guess!

I hear about this concept of a kit being re-printed which makes sense to me, but how do people find out that a certain kit has been reprinted, do they just notice that its in stock, is there a Bandai newsletter, or something else?

Basically following the stores and their restocks/preorder updates. Stores get order forms that go about six months out. Then you can check the actual kit. There are runner dials that you can read and see when it was produced down to the month and year.

just as a reminder for the future, Ver Ka releases only comes with waterslides from the Nu Gundam onwards so anything before and they won't come with waterslides

That's the way it's pronounced in Japanese. The Japanese language doesn't have a "Si" sound in it. Closest is "Shi". So Sinanju becomes "Shinanju".

You know what would go REALLY well with this kit?? I forget but there was bandai action stand 2 or 4(?) That was customized in full frontal colours and patterns. Much like Char Aznable action stand, its discontinued and hard to find outside of rare price gouging sellers on ebay. Suits the colour scheme and its an official merchandise.

I've avoided both versions due to the lacking gold color separation, especially for the price. I'll get the RG eventually because of this, nevermind its inner frame issues. I could paint it, but that's not why I'm into gunpla, I do that enough with miniatures. I was annoyed that I had to fix the silver and gold parts on the RG hi-nu as it is.

Man, can't believe Unicorn happened so long ago. Feels like Bandai has been dragging their feet for almost 20 years now with UC timeline stuff. They've basically done nothing of value with UC since Unicorn\Narrative when they should have been doing adaptations of Crossbone and making new UC content. Instead we've gotten... Literally nothing. And what we've gotten out of non-UC hasn't exactly been a good consolation prize.

Whoa, they did the first Hathaway's Flash movie...you know, the one that's basically all setup and whose sequels have slipped so far off the radar they're probably down at crush depth. And they just *can't* make Crossbone, since with the manga already done they couldn't guarantee that the development would be messy and haphazard enough to deliver a compromised-at-best final product. That said, I'll defend WfM for being entertaining if not, you know, actually good. And the gunpla from it are legit amazing.

Literally nothing? They produced The Origin, Thunderbolt, Hathaway, and Cucuruz. There's also the upcoming CGI film. I didn't care for Cucuruz and felt mixed on Hathaway, but I'd rate The Origin and Thunderbolt as top three (along with Unicorn) for the franchise ever. And in non-UC we got IBO, probably the best full series in decades - hardly a consolation prize.

@@dmmontal Unfortunately IBO doesn't have a lot of competition (although I've heard the G-Reco movies fix some issues it has). It and Thunderbolt kind of have the same problem for me -- weaker second seasons. They're both definitely still watchable (and honestly you could stop at Thundebolt's first four episodes and have a perfectly fine ending), but I'm deeply hoping for IBO to get into SRW because they'd have to at least avert some stupid deaths. I don't even mind tragic shows and endings -- Zeta Gundam is one of my top 3 -- but the way it was done there was just so incredibly aggravating...
