Thanks for the video. I was able to order a rebuikd kit locally in Australlia from a Brake suplier that deals in parts for many old cars. The spreader washer often talked about was not required because the new rubber cup had one moulded into it. One difference though was the little valve body suplied in the kit does not fit into the opening of the spring so I have retained the original. Also it came with 2 types of secondary seals depending on what type was originaly fitted. I guess the master cylinder was common to other British makes and not just MG. My Master cylinder has already been resleeved and the container is made from solid metal with a cap the same as on top of a gearbox or diff. A 29mm box spanner that comes with most house tap repairs fits neatly over the large nut to remove from the chassis. I did not disturb the extension tupe for fear of not being able to get a new copper washer but had internals honed. My reason for dismantling was a rear cylinder was sticking so thought may as well check all . Great video Doug.

Very informative and very much appreciative on the video of how to rebuild the Master cylinder for the TC! Now to take it out and order the much needed parts to rebuild it! Thank you, Doug! Looking forward to seeing you on our next visit to Meza! Bruce

Nice film. Im about to put mine back together. I have a rubber ring in my repair kit that seemed like a spare part. I can see it's the first part to go in. Previous owner must've missed it out. I do have a thin metal ring in mine that you don't show. How important is that bit?

The metal ring was part of the original MC's. However, it is no longer part of or needed with today's rebuild kits. Thanks for watching. Doug

But you don't show how to remove the master cylinder from the frame, especially the pushrod.

Nice informative video but Why wouldn’t you just assemble from the other end? Cups go in easier with no chance of damage using a pick,, and you don’t have to hold the spring back to get the circlip in. I don’t get why you did it from the from that end. It can all be done on the bench without even needing to put it in a vice. Just curious

The assembly sequence is important because you have to visually confirm correct seal and placement of the rubber washer and valve body. If you assemble in reverse of the video you cannot visually confirm.

It would be more difficult to get the extension on keeping the copper sealing washer square. The cups go down very easy, and I've assembled about 80 of these and have never damaged it with the pick. Thanks for the feedback.

My master cylinder has additional pieces not seen in this video. There is a small tapered spring and a round metal device with a pointed end that sits below the valve and butts up against the valve rubber. I don't see these pieces in your video or in the Moss catalog. My TC is from 1946, #1022. Can you clarify for me? Many thanks.

Hi Terry, They are not needed. Modern rubber is much better than the Early TC's.

Doug, just curious regarding my MC. Between the main cylinder rubber (innermost) and the piston flange with the circular row of small holes, my MC has a thin washer. I could not see that washer being fitted in your video. Is it not needed? Also on a general note, the end of the spring seems to locate directly onto the main cylinder rubber. Many slave cylinders (including the TC units) have a spreader washer in place to reduce the tendency of the spring end to dig into the rubber. Is such a washer not needed here? D

Those are not needed. Thanks

@@derekfoster6320 Which are not needed? The thin washer under the rubber seal or the spreader washers? It would seem to me that if the manufacturer went to the trouble of making the thin washer and installing it then it must have a purpose and therefore be needed.
@derekfoster6320

@@davidmottram7206 neither are needed. They are not in any factory manual we have, all sources point to the thin washers came from rebuild kits from the 60's.
