It's not stated explicitly in the video, but Sublime behaves the same across all platforms, so the same steps for locating and setting up the config will work across all OS's, though the name of the folder you create/duplicate to will change (follow the convention of the file that you see). Portable builds for Linux aren't distributed but still possible. They're possible on MacOS as well, but less common due to the update mechanism used on MacOS.

I always come back to Sublime after forays into Vim, Emacs, kakoune, VS Code, etc. It hits that sweet spot of functionality and super speed without all the unneeded bells and whistles, while behaving sanely. I absolutely love the Mariana theme, just wish they had a light default theme with more constrast, the light ones are not so good. Hopefully they replace Breakers with a new light default theme eventually!

The Breakers scheme is actually the same colors as Mariana but with a lighter background; I find that even Mariana doesn't have quite enough contrast for me, but a simple 2% tweak to the background darkness hits the sweet spot for me. :) If I recall correctly, the plan going forward is for those two color schemes (also provided in Merge) to be the base color schemes going forward though.

I used this vid to assist with my up grade to ST(4). I don't Think it mentions that you need to install Package Control after moving your config files (User) about: (I've watched this vid 3 times [at 1.5 speed so might have missed it]) Do you actually go into detail on how to do the upgrade ? Is it worth doing a detailed vid on how actually to do the upgrade from 3 to (4). The Package Control detail (had known about it) would have saved me a spot of work. If the Details are in this vid could you time stamp them pls ? All I can say is that the ST team (of which I believe you might only be a volunteer) are Really lucky to have you ! This video presumes that you're running ST3 on a computer and you want to upgrade it to ST4 while having the two versions still installed; thus you copy the entire config. What you are trying to do is synchronize your configuration for Sublime from one computer to a different one (the version bump doesn't matter in that case); the video that describes that (which does indeed demonstrate package control installing packages) is this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3fKZKyVaZ13jZI

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sublime! My personal recommendation would be to use ST4 if it's available to you; ST3 won't see any new features while ST4 is still actively developed. If you're already using ST3 you can just install ST4 alongside it, and it will re-use your ST3 configuration.

Sublime Text 4 is dropping 32 bit support, so you'll need a 64 bit version of windows to run it. Like Sublime Text 3, it does not support interactive builds out of the box without using a package like Terminus. There have been some enhancements to builds in general though (just not that one).

Do you know if it's possible to switch between the "burger menu" icon and the traditional toolbar which is visible at all times (File, Edit, View, etc.)? Sounds pedantic, but having a menu icon means it's an extra click for minor cosmetic improvement. Thanks for the video.

The "themed_title_bar" setting can be set to false, which will bring the menu back to the normal position. It requires that the theme support it though, so this will work with Adaptive but if you have a third party theme that styles the title bar for MacOS and doesn't have a way to turn it off, you need to tweak the theme manually or ask the theme author to support the setting.

No, but there is a package that can use DAP to talk to external debug servers, though I have no experience with that myself.

You can create a new tab by using `File > New File`, pressing `Ctrl+N` (or `Cmd+N` on MacOS) or clicking the `+` button at the right of the tab bar; typing in there is your new file and you can save it as you like. :)

Unfortunately Sublime doesn't do that out of the box. Since it is not an electron app, it doesn't have an embedded web browser like visual studio code would for example.

I actually find it faster and easier to find and modify them without having to jump through the hoops of a visual editor, but others have expressed a similar wish. I don't think it's immediately forthcoming though.

In theory yes, but I think it's going to be sooner than that. More or less the main outlier in holding back the release (that we know about externally) is that package control needs to be modified to allow for dependency libraries to be used for packages running in the new 3.8 plugin host, and work on that is currently underway.

What are the options for subl4 on Linux? I would prefer a completely clean install that doesn't use my subl3 folders/settings/configs ect. Im happy to copy my configuration myself. Ps. I'm using the default install package from sublime in arch and I have a license.

Sublime behaves the same on all OS's, so the same things will work on Linux as on Windows except that the folder name will be `sublime-text` instead of `Sublime Text` in the configuration location, which is generally `~/.config`; so something like "mkdir -p ~/.config/sublime-text" should do it.

Both versions have a default for this that can be found in the menu under `Edit > Tag > Wrap Selection with Tag`. If you look in the menu you can see what the default key binding for your platform is. If you would like to change it, when you open the key bindings, you can search the left hand pane for the default one, copy it to your bindings in the right hand pane, and adjust the key as you would like.

My color scheme is Mariana and the theme is Adaptive; both of them ship with Sublime. The closest thing to that directly is I think this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKbcdaablsZ9opo) that talks about the User Interface. Apart from that, there's nothing to explicitly guide a new user in general through Sublime as all videos are responses to questions people have after already using it. That said, I'm currently in the planning phases for some upcoming video series and something that's been at the back of my mind for a while is something just like this, so now may be the the time to plan that out.

I dislike the sublime text 3 Menu bar white color because it does not change to dark color. Therefore install VS Code. Now I come back to sublime text 4 I will check this on also.

Can somebody PLEASE draw a horizontal line to separate the menu from the title bar? When you try to move a window around a screen, you never know whether you will "grab" the title bar or not because there is no line separating it from the file menu space below, which cannot be used to move the window, but looks like a continuation of the title bar, and if you happen to try just below where that line would be, you won't move the window and it's annoying. A lot of programs do it these days and, along with "borderless" design that won't let you tell where your window ends if overlayed over a similar background (another similar window), I wonder whose bright idea it was to create the annoying UX features like this.

Hello and sorry for the delay in response, I have not been getting YT notifications lately. Offhand, I'm not sure if this is possible other than to set the caption color via the theme to be distinct from the menu. I don't think the theme engine supports modifications to the caption and menu specifically, other than to use a custom caption and have it roll up the menu into the "hamburger" menu at the left of the caption bar instead.

Sure thing! It's pretty much just like Sublime Merge is licensed; your license entitles you to any versions of Sublime released in the past plus any versions released within 3 years of the date you purchased the license. The license is perpetual, so you retain full rights to keep using the version(s) you had access to before, and you only need to pay again for another three years of updates. At the moment Sublime Text 4 is not officially public (in that it doesn't appear on the website), and since it classifies as a development build any existing ST3 license will work for it. SublimeHQ has stated in the discord that they haven't decided yet if existing ST3 users with licenses older than 3 years will have a discounted update price initially or not however.

You indeed can! It's just not turned on by default like it was in ST3 because the developers discovered how much extra power it wastes blinking the cursor, which can be important if you're using a Laptop on battery power. In your preferences, set the `caret_style` setting to `smooth`; that's the default that ST3 uses (it now defaults to `solid` in ST4).

For glowing items you need to add some customizations to your color scheme that include "glow" in the "font_style". An example of something that does that for the Mariana color scheme that makes python identifiers and the true/false constants in some languages (e.g. JavaScript) is gist.github.com/OdatNurd/3dad48d8c656795bedda5185cfe530d1 See the videos in the color schemes playlist; there should totally be something in there that shows how to add color scheme rules, i think.

How did you get the top menu. File, Edit and others.

If your theme has a custom title bar, the menu will appear as three lines in the left of the title bar. You can click that with the mouse or press Alt to open the menu. The `themed_title_bar` setting controls whether this happens or not. Note however that the theme you're using has to honour the setting, so some third party themes may not respect it. In that case you need to use a different theme or ask the author of the theme to support the setting (or manually tweak the theme to not try and alter the title bar).

Sublime Text 4 doesn't have an integrated terminal in it, but Terminus is a very capable package that adds that support. I've never used it for that purpose myself, but I would imagine that if you can start the terminal from windows, it would work just fine in Terminus.

It will definitely be made public when the first stable version is ready; it just hasn't reached that point yet. The community gets the sense that it's pretty close to happening at this point. It's still going to be a commercial application that requires you to purchase a license however.
