The rubber ring is there to cushion the float against the tank interior wall ,cheers Graham retired maintenance engineer

Snubbing the sender against the tank full up and full down beats having a metallic clank clank - when you run out a fuel and run on rough roads working that issue on other applications

These senders are hopeless, they last about 5 years, maybe its the petrol that does it. Last one I took off would not drop below 48 ohms so only a 2/3 reading at full tank. Agree the rubber ring on the float must be an anti rattle feature. Nothing against MGB Hive pricing and service but watch out for their P+P rates, sometimes pretty high compared with MGOC spares. Fitting this is a piece of cake as long as you haven't got a lot of rust and filth to contend with!
