MGB Heater Core

Heater core replacement on 1974 MGB. This may not be a great how to video, but is is a great how NOT to video. We show symptoms of a bad heater core and how to fix it. Hope you like it.

On an MGB, pulling the heater box and replacing the bottom seal on the windshield are almost worst than pulling the engine. Thanks for posting the video!👍

NO kidding. I replaced the rubber seal on my '74 and messed it up at the end. I couldn't bring myself to pull the windshield and start over. Needless to say, I have a slight leak. Maybe I'll make a video of fixing it. The good news is, the heater works great. Check out the heater box video in "64 MGB restoration, Love 1.0" Cheers, Bob

Really great video. I'm relieved the green wire trick worked to pull the cable back through the grommet. From the horror stories I've heard, that cable is the worst part of it, and no way I want to monkey with it on the heater core side.

I did not want to pull the whole unit mostly because it is so hard to get the gaskets and all the plumbing running over it back in place. I spent a lot of time just trying to remove the core, but as I learned (the hard way) it was easier in the long run to pull the unit, put it on the bench and fix it and replace it as a unit. I don't pre produce these videos so viewers can see all the problems that can turn a 2 hour job into a three day ordeal. Thank you so much for the comment. I started putting LEDs in my gauges November first, that turned into replace the gauge bezels, then I got the bright idea to replace the carpet while the console was out, followed by let's reupholster the crumbling seats... I'll be able to drive it tomorrow for the first time since November.

Some Good Tips ------ Question ----- did the new Heater Core come with the two new rubber grommets you put into the cover that the two necks come through ----- if not do you know the size of them ------ they weren't there when you pulled the core out of the housing ------- Again Thank You for the video ------ Rodney

I am so thrilled to know someone watches. Thank you. You are right, they were not in the box when I took it apart. I can't remember which car I had, that had them. I ordered them from Moss, here is the link. mossmotors.com/280-190-grommet The grommets help keep the air from seeping out of the heater box. Also, I may suggest to watch part one of the Restoration of the '64 MGB, Love 1.0. I assemble another heater box. I would appreciate your opinion. Hope I was helpful. Cheers, Bob
