It probably has to do with the high expectations George had for Cordae. As you said, Cordae is a young rapper with an old school style and that's rare, so naturally he (and many others) wants him to be the next Nas/J.Cole whatever. IMO he isn't at that level though, so that's where the critique must be coming from.
