From David Engel's description "From storyboard to final edit, this is the fanfare I created that preceded each film that was released on MGM/UA Home Video between 1993 and 1998. I conceived, designed, directed, and with the help of the brilliant James Raitt, scored it. It was early on in the days of CGI 3D animation and it had a $100K budget. The company wanted to incorporate both the old B&W Lion Logo with the current one to signify the breadth of their film catalogue. They were going to do a morph of the two but I pitched this idea and was awarded it. From the MGM archives I pulled orchestrations from the actual original hand printed conductor scores from a few classic MGM musicals to recreate the feel of the old MGM Studio Orchestra. The theme music for this was James' idea. It is the opening fanfare to The Wizard of Oz (Glinda's Theme). We used a full symphony orchestra for this. I remember walking into the recording studio and was introduced to the orchestra members as the composer. They all applauded with their violin bows etc. They had been rehearsing before I got there. I had only heard it synthesized up to this point. The conductor had me stand on his platform with him just off his shoulder and they played it down. I completely burst into tears and couldn't pull it together to even express in words how phenomenal it was. It was one of the most thrilling single moments of my life. This is actually one of my proudest achievements..."
