What I find completely intriguing is the fact that in interviews their answers are mostly all over the place (not in a bad way). They talk about the little experiments they do here and there like 2 high school kids explaining how they designed a science project. But their final product is always an amazing album, vibrant, full of color and concepts, very mature and professional. In contrast we often hear some big pop stars talking about their albums as if they were The Dark Side of The Moon, and yet delivering (again) a dumb bubble-gum plastic empty record.

Little Dark Age is their most accessible in ten years and they seem happy with it. Their music will never be blasting out of frat halls and beach resort bars again, so they’ve successfully freed themselves from the pressures of catering to those fans. After Congratulations and MGMT none of them are still hanging around. Now the band can make the dance pop music they want to make.

I can wholeheartedly say MGMT is 100% about the making and production of their sound. They are NOT about the fame, fortune, or recognition that comes with it and they’re very vocal about that and always have been. They actively mock society as a whole and poke at the incongruencies they see day to day through their inherent “fame.” They joked their way to the top and never expected to get where they were and have talked about that before, too. Do they appreciate their music and are they proud of it? Heck yeah! But they’re not going to fake something or give an interview that’s going to please the audience at the expense of what they think is right...whether we as fans agree or not. Now, that leaves us dissatisfied to a certain degree but you’re either on their train or not. They don’t bend for anybody and don’t make apologies for it. That’s MGMT in a nutshell.
@stud105

I would lump Arctic monkeys & Arcade Fire into that mix. Old school lovers of the art of music and it's production.

Because like it or not those are their most popular songs that alot of people think of when they think MGMT. Fans like you or me, who im sure know all the tracks from Congratulations and MGMT albums, they didnt make the TV program for us. Its probably more to showcase new music to a broad viewing public, so they choose their most catchy songs to draw people in who might not know the band.

I saw a much worse very recent interview, This one got more into who they are, I’m just excited they’re back, their music hooked me in along with the weird videos... Success to the guys. Andrew channeling Robert Smiths hair in Little dark age video..
