There’s no doubt she’s a fan. But maybe 2008, not 2007. 2009 is honestly when they really were well known. Congratulations came out in 2010 and divided fans but the end of the decade before had them in high regard. 2018’s Little Dark Age was another classic album. Love this band.

no no, Kids was already blowing up in the underground way before Oracular Spetacular released, Kids is from 2005 and they played it live multiple times + released demo versions of it independently + had released and sold time to pretend EP before, which sold well because of Kids and Time to Pretend

I've been a huge fan of these two since 2006...18 years ago, which is nuts to consider. Their very first EP, which had both Time To Pretend and Kids in it, was so obviously something new and excellent the moment I listened to it back then. There's like 4 other songs that are JUST as good...Indie Rokkers alone is genius as a song. They've always been great, got *_SUPER_* famous for like 2 years...and then it was back to them remaining true to how they started off this whole music thing. I'm 41 now...and have been a huge huge fan since day 1, remained one when the entire world utterly embraced them for a glorious 2 years, and remained one ever since. Not loving everything always...but still loving everything. Oracular Spectacular is a genius album. The uber fans _love_ shouting out Congratulations, and fair enough. But for me, OS is _the_ MGMT album for good reason. It's perfect. Just...perfect. It's very weird and creative and ambitious and catchy all at once. It's like 2 musical geniuses thought it would be hilarious to make the perfect album...and actually succeeded. That is fascinating and beautiful to me. I'm very excited to dive into this new album....

More optimistic?? It sounds so bleak and dispirited. In a good way of course. But compared to Little Dark Age I struggle to find elements of the album optimistic or hopeful. There's a strong sense of resignation, down to the album art and the KZbin playlists having 'MGMT' written in a formal font with plain grey colouring among a stark black background.
