That being said: This song, from what I remember reading a few years back, most people interpreted it as THEIR political leaning, since the lyrics are quite vague. Later, the song of course became associated with 'little dark age edits', typically showing scenes of modern places/archetypes of people, followed by a series of images and clips of that place in the past. What these have in common is that everyone of course believes that things now are either really great or really bad, with more people trending towards the latter as depression rates rise at the same time as the internet creates little pockets of obscure radicals believing in the ideologies of small time 19-20th century intellectuals. These people are driven to action, sometimes in real life, often taking the role of the derogatory 'keyboard warrior'. 50 years ago, these people would be fairly normal and well adjusted. They're brought to depression by a myriad of modern factors, and find a purpose in fake online politics. A big unifying factor of 'radical' politics is this sort of idea that violence has to happen, it's necessary, and that people will get hurt and likely die. The logical conclusion is that these people who think they've got little or nothing to lose begin to believe they could be the 'sacrifice' that'd bring about the new world. 'If you get out of bed' a simple action, reflecting the complete disfunction of depressed people. Sometimes not even being able to get out of bed, the first step of the day that most people never even think about. It doesn't make much sense without my context that's all mixed up in my mind, but to me it's about a 'radical' (people that think they're radical but are actually just depressed most of the time) who both sees the world as being in a 'little dark age' and is themselves going through a little dark age. Willing to elaborate given I haven't read over this and it prolly doesn't make sense.
