MGS 4 80gig PS3 blu-ray drive tricky assembly

This is for reassembling the Metal Gear Solid edition 80gig PS3 system's blu-ray drive, because those gears and levers were so dang intricate to align. Let me know if it helps or if anything could be added!

I had cleaned mine and "thought" I put it all together right and sure enough, the little arm, the inside one that you need to use a file or something to get to? That was the little bugger that wasnt in so my discs weren't going into the drive!!!!! Thank you so much for this awesome video! The parts are crazy! thank you very much for this video! it helped us with getting our drive back into place. Now it accepts and ejects discs again, but it won't spin, lol. Solve one problem, another one pops up. This is crazy.

I haven't had to do this for years and Im assembling from spare parts BUT way easier way of getting a disk out even if your PS3 goes YLOD or RLOD Sony must have foreseen this happening so what you do is turn the power off on the back (slims unplug) then hold down the power & eject while turning the power on on the back side(slims while plugging in). Your PS3 will cycle through a self check/self cleaning -the fan runs really high but near the end as it checks the BD-Player it will eject the disk. You need not take a part to get yo disk out.

I spent a whole night last week with the disk drive cus it fell into pieces and had to figure it out and finally after watching a Brazilian guy explain I finally got it, don’t mess with the drive if you don’t have to rt

I got a good copy of "Spyro Ripto's Rage" out of a system I got with a faulty disc drive. Going to put the system back together and see if the drive is functioning now. Will update this post if it works. Thanks!

I was able to move the tracks without taking the gears off. I just put a finger nail into the teeth of one of the largest gears and carefully turned it bit by bit.

Really struggling to line up both sides with the white pieces. My drive will now eject but not take in a disc. Also still won’t read it

I forgot to put back a white gear piece on one of the corners. Putting it back fixed the problem.

The blue ray player recognizes the disk ,but the information it is that read. The block blue ray player, and all disk in.????????
