Another mission that is very easy to No Trace if you only go for the main objective. Just make the horse defecate on the road outside the palace, wait for the vehicles to leave and have them drive over the poop, fulton the armored vehicle, grab Malak from the car and extract via the chopper. Can be done in 3-4 minutes. So, to keep things a bit more interesting I decided to rescue 5 prisoners from the Palace and the outpost.

@@TiagoSilva-ib7vq You gotta hold Ctrl, or tilt your analog stick only slightly towards the doorway. Moving at full speed even while crouched causes Snake to slam the door open. You'll notice he opens every door in the video by walking slowly at it.

Try to get the conversations. First one is between soldier & driver and driver and Malak at Lamar Khaate. The second one is between the driver and a soviet soldier on their first stop after Lamar Khaate Palace. Its interesting how the game has been giving here hints about the virus and Skull's biological experiments on people (the "autopsy" soldier talks about) and about the Man On Fire (just before the Yakho Oboo). The driver seems to be a nice guy and encourages Malak both before Yakho Oboo and at the final destination. Even he has a hood which at least I have never seen anyone with in the game. Moreover if you catch and interrogate him, unlike other soldiers (who give information such as "The prisoner is here!"), he says-"Have you come to rescue Malak?". That was too personal. I wonder if Kojima had some plans about him and this was just another easter egg for the unreleased chapters or future games. I mean who knows. Right?

This would be more impressive with the regular fulton. This is the mission in which you unlock the transport specialist so it's not possible to complete this mission the way you did until after the initial playthrough.

Loving these videos prenatual - very impressive work and keep them coming! I'm still struggling on some of the Chapter 2 missions - now everyone has body armour and helmets - my standard first-run stealth tactics (relying on reflex and tranq headshots) aren't so effective anymore and it's taking a lot of retries! I hope you manage to do some of those later missions as well but I guess we see how you get on :)

+Geoff Cunningham Headshots are still possible and fairly easy even when they are wearing protective helmets, you just need to aim for their face. It also seems like guards need to choose between night vision goggles and helmets, so NVG guards are easy headshots and helmet guards you just aim for the nose.

+Geoff Cunningham No, and if you go to combat deployment, you can send soldiers to stop the supply of riot suits in that area, and the same with all other gear. It uses your combat unit, and takes a while, but it's worth it.

try the 'combat deployment missions' and aim for the storage shed destruction dispatch missions which cut off the supply of riot shields to the enemies. It actually works. Moroever if you infiltrate at night, also aim at cutting off supply of night vision goggles and flash light.

Shotgun is your friend. Fun fact: you'll get silenced (STUN) shotgun waaay far earlier than silenced (STUN) assault rifles. .... Or you can use Riot SMG. :p

+Discendo Vox 1. Yep. Unless you take out the guards checking up on prisoners these alerts are unavoidable. 2. Nocto definitely helps but it doesn't change much. I mostly use it so that the viewers can more easily see what's going on. I don't really need it since I already played each level several times and have a very good idea of enemy locations and patrol routes. In situations where I needed to confirm that there are no enemies who could hear me using fulton (9:33) I could've used sonar instead.

+Armand Castro I may consider it, but don't hold your breath. If you want to sneak through a fully upgraded and staffed FOB there is only one or two routes you can take. And if the defender joins in, it usually turns into into a grenade and rocket spam-fest. One hit from a stun or sleep grenade launcher and it's pretty much a game over, no matter what kind of equipment you have. The game has worse noob-tube problem than Modern Warfare 2, only here you get one life as an invader and have to spend 5 minutes to join another invasion after getting killed. It's impossible to have cat-and-mouse chases like they showed in the trailers, because no one plays like that. Everyone plays it like a deathmatch and I don't find that very fun.

@@cocob0l0 If I were to make a guess, it’s probably because when put in the same situation, most players’ response would be to rush into the cell ASAP to avoid the guard, while forgetting that due to the proximity, the sound from running will cause the guard to notice them.

Why don't you go with the sneaking suit for such missions? You don't use camouflage anyway, so the sneaking suit would help with speed. Sometimes, you can dive close to an enemy (within 10 m) and they still don't hear the thud you make on the ground.

+qsqua It makes the stealth boring. The noise ranges and enemy placement were clearly balanced for normal suits. The sneaking suit pretty much removes footstep noises from the equation, so you can just forget about the noise you make and only worry about the visibility. I'd prefer to avoid that. I'm also not trying to speedrun the game, so I'm not very concerned about losing 5-10 seconds here and there.

+qsqua I can agree on the looks. If it weren't for the noise reduction effect, I would only use the sneaking suit (and desert fox suit for Afghan missions). And I don't think you're missing much by not using camo. It seems that it only reduces visibility when you are staying in one place. When you are moving even at the slowest speed it loses its effect, so it's not very useful.

After you scan it with your iDroid the normal Episode XX screen fades in and then you start off with the box disappearing next to you. It pretty much just skips the long and tedious helicopter rides.

I didn't play the game.. Can you explain what kind of sorcery is this parachute that you extract objective people and vechicles? BTW. awesome as always, I watch every episode and laugh at how simple it seems (game mechanism seems to give you many overadvantages, like seeing through walls, hiding on moving horse or horse shitting to get some car) but I think it wouldn't be that simple if I played it myself, you do perfect timings and probably practise a lot (in general, I think that this game is rather easy to you :D)

I wager it has something to do with alien technology. The rare animal that unlocks the upgrade is described as reminiscent of the ancient Jackal God Anubis. There are many pseudoscientific conspiracy theories around ancient civilizations and animals that incorporate advanced alien technology. And Kojima has not shied away from extraterrestrial references in past titles. Think of MGS2 Campbell abduction story and Guns of the Patriots crop circle easter egg. Plus the whole body snatchers thing. It all makes perfect sense .. in the awesome, abstract, and ridiculous Kojima-like way that we all love. Haha.

It is actually fulton extraction which pulls up the object with the help of balloons and is retrieved mid air by plane. (The movie The Dark Knight used this too). Quite later in the game when you get some particular parasites, you will be able to create a wormhole leading to 100% successful extraction irrespective of the weather, person's medical condition and availability of open sky.

For most of the game it's the "fulton extraction device", which is *very* loosely based on using balloons to extract things to the air. Later in the game you get the wormhole to replace the balloons, which allows you to extract things without the enemy shooting them down and to do so indoors. I don't think the wormhole is supposed to be canon lol... it's a gameplay quirk, like having a bandana which can give you infinite ammo.

The Soviet CP was told 4 TIMES that the prisoners were gone and the text also appeared that "Soviet CP : Entering alert status" . I still don't know the real meaning of "No traces" . Is it no alert or no white markers on screen?

No alerts means no _combat alerts_ where the enemy has spotted you and has started attacking. No traces you're on the right track with, that means you don't disrupt enemy personnel whether by killing or knocking them out. Missing prisoner calls don't count because the assumption is that they escaped by themselves. Even if in Malak's case it makes no sense. You can tell how well you're doing with this from enemy conversations; going in guns blazing all the time will get you identified by name very quickly, tranqing targets but leaving them will start complaints about guards sleeping on the job, etc.

I usually leave the enemies tranquillised (resulting on that one conversation where two Soviet soldiers were talking how some of their men were found sleeping on the job) but I have never gotten a no traces , maybe because of this

+katmaster39 With all the extra restrictions I set for myself the game feels pretty challenging, yes. Getting no suspicions means that I have to immediately restart a mission once I get even a single white indicator in the middle of the screen, or when someone hears a noise. I have to replay each mission dozens of times before I can do them without causing any disturbances. If I didn't care about this stuff, it would've been much easier.

Did you play a lot of side missions before doing this one or was this a replay. Your Foulton extraction skill seems to be highly levelled up. During this mission I only progressed enough in the game to have the ability to Lift mortars and machine guns, not vehicles.
