One thing I appreciate about the older MH games (the further you go back the further the degree), is that they require discipline, patience, and a methodical approach. With enough focus and prediction (from experience) you really could wallop a monster fast and consistently. Not to say that Gen 4 (4U not so much, but a little) and 5 are button mashers, but they are so forgiving, to the point that you really can go braindead during a hunt and recover each time from a greedy hit. Sometimes you really shouldn't try to "get away with" a hit; I think showing restraint is the proof of a hero in MH. Not talking about speedrunning or optimization either, just remembered people praising/complaining about Gen 2 and back being "unfair" and "broken" games. Not true... mostly. You just need to learn the pace of the game. This video was sexy btw

Thank you and yeah, AI and movesets in later games push you to a different way of playing that I do not like as much as the old ones.
@archiebellega9564 жыл бұрын
It's unfair because of broken hitboxes and bullshit hit ( like how the tigrex front claw hitzone is a bit bullshit, as it linger for like half a second after its spin move. Got thrown by that several times. Tbh almost every tigrex move linger a bit longer than the animation, giving you the "wtf why I'm being hit by a stopped arm/tail") The newer games fix the hitboxes a bit, but they also add a fuck tons of evasion move and weapon's DPS, while they don't buff the monster's moveset enough to give the same level of danger you feel from older gen.

Gunlancing seems much more fun in the more recent games than it does in this one. The fact that shelling does not scale well in this game takes away from the fun factor. Might as well just use a regular lance if you're not going to be shelling at all.
@CSplitter9 жыл бұрын
There are reasons to use GL if you are not shelling. When facing monsters such as Tigrex whose head is not high, you're going to be getting more forward stabs in than upward stabs. GL's first 2 forwards have 26% modifier compared to Lance's 23%. Another reason is the running stab. Great for closing distance and your biggest frient against wind pressure (also used for dodgin). This may not seem like much but it can completely change your tactics against stuff like diablos. The uppercut also comes out quicker ( and "lefter") than other hits and can give your better opportunities to position yourself optimally. That said, 3rd and 4th gen gunlance is more varied.
@kura1005 жыл бұрын
Gunlance's shelling is also extremely useful against incredibly durable monsters such as Gravios or White Fatalis' armor mode since they ignore defense and always do fixed damage. Other than that, yeah, shelling becomes less viable in high to G-rank quests.

Picked up gun lance recently. This video was awesome. Gave me a much better idea of how to run it. I'm curious why you weren't using the shells and the big fire blast. Is it too slow for these high rank fights?
@CSplitter9 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Shells and Wyvern fire do set damage based on your Gunlance's shell level and type. While amazing in low rank and decent in high rank, they do not scale well into G rank. Unite also introduced a great decrease in sharpness when a shell is fired so they tend to be sub optimal against most monsters. There's still use for them though. Chaining combos is shells' primary use in G rank and there's a couple of cases you can fire off a good Wyvern Fire. But Tigrex's openings don't allow long combos. And I tend to forget there's a gun on my lance :).

There's reasons to still play melee Gunlance. Its melee moveset is still different from Lance, and offers different strategies. I will copy and paste the Runners reply to another comment from 8 years ago, it explains it perfeclty "There are reasons to use GL if you are not shelling. You really didn't utilize the Gunlance to its full potential.Shelling is one of the best way to trip a monster down.Especially the Wyvern Fire is effective to preempt the monster charge attacks.I suggest you just you normal Lance instead.Gunlance isn't suitable for you.
@CSplitter4 жыл бұрын
I suggest you take a look at MHFU's damage formula. Shelling is not one of the best ways to trip a monster down unless the hitzone has terrible melee damage modifiers. Versus Tigrex you should not be aiming for the legs anyway. Wyvern fire's set damage falls off by G rank. It leads to big sharpness loss and if by preempt you mean stagger the monster mid charge, even if you manage to do that consistenly, WF's recoil does not allow you to meaningfully capitalise on that
@ganasariokrisnadi73224 жыл бұрын
