Greatsword is the way to go in MHFU. Good thing to try for the first Tigrex hunt in village LR Is to take a bunch of bombs, traps, and the materials to make a lot more and just whittle him down that way before finishing him off with hit and run tactics or go for the cap. I did the former. Most satisfying hunt I have EVER completed.
