7:14 You can see the red plane parked next to the garden at the right side of the island. Which means porco chose to live there with Gina. It's kinda hidden and not meant for the casual viewer to see but for the hardcore fans that demand an explanation to the ending :)

I think I watched this movie for the first time when I was 8 when on our national television was Japanese film week. I loved it and I have watched it again many times since then. I love all the Ghibli films that I have seen but Porco Rosso is one that I will cherish forever.

The Savoia S21 is a big reference to Savoia = Savoia Marchetti Aircraft company S 21 = (I'm not sure) is a ww2 Japanese aircraft Folgore = it could be several ww2 Italian things, but I'm pretty much sure is reference about the Macchi M.C.202 "Folgore"

To be fair, Miyazaki loves a lot of Europe. But he focused a lot on Italy and the Mediterranean Sea for this particular movie. Helen McCarthy mentions in her book that the passion that Miyazaki has for Italy is well known among his colleagues: www.amazon.com/Hayao-Miyazaki-Master-Japanese-Animation/dp/1880656418 For Miyazaki's first film, "The Castle of Cagliostro", Miyazaki had Lupin III drive a Fiat 500 which is a classic Italian car. Also, the name "Ghibli" was inspired off of a WWII Italian plane.

Good review the way you pronounce Ghibli is not right. Better pronounce “Ghi” as in Gina.
