Thank you so much for this guide. I’ve been struggling to figure out how to strongarm stance into true charge for a while. No one had a clear guide like this. Thank you chris.
@chronozon9372 жыл бұрын
Important note regarding the timing of strongarm stance: While charging the skill only comes out when you RELEASE the left trigger. Using the switch button layout the full order of operations is X(hold) -> ZL(hold) -> point the left thumbstick in the direction you want to face the strongarm -> ZL(release). You must time the incoming attack with releasing the left trigger or you'll just get hit, time it correctly and you'll go into the true charged like the video says. Technically you can move the thumbstick and then quickly tap the trigger to activate it but point is the timing is on the release, not the press. This has been incredibly frustrating to me since sunbreak and I only just today got it because after months of fiddling off and on with it apparently now was the first time I didn't press and hold the trigger for the entire combo. I've watched 10 different videos on the skill and not a single one of them, including this one, mention this vital part of the skill.

What I use tho instead of charged slash is the new surge slash combo it's just so much fun, rather than going for counters the whole hunt it's just nonstop meaty action plus I still have the counter just in case there's an opportunity in the middle of my combos. GS is so far so amazing to play with!

@CorazonLaw12 жыл бұрын
@@OnAMoonlitPath the last horizontal attack of SSC is actually so good it's kinda op. It gives hyper armor and it seemingly charges the follow-up X input charge slash significantly faster than when you use the 3rd vertical attack of SSC. And it also deals alot of damage and looks hella cool.

I love the agency and variation of the Surge Slash Combo. changing attacks to suit where a monster moved and the lower commitment really helped me get into the weapon. Lance taught me control is worth more than power and this lets me wrap my head around the weapon. Mad respect to the charged slashers that can see 5 seconds into the future and land a TCS on a charging monster.

How do y’all feel about the new surge slash combo? Personally, I think it’s really cool looking but I’m not entirely sold on its effectiveness
@F-aber2 жыл бұрын
My problem is that you can't easily tackle out if it to tank an incoming attack, but as far as I'm aware the damage is decent if not better than the standard moveset, the bigger problem is just that strongarm is even stronger so why bother equipping a different base combo that you will almost never use
@proxythefool2 жыл бұрын
As a GS main, I'm not much of a fan. Call me old schooled but I prefer the original setup plus strongarm. Surge slash feels too much like Dual Blades (I really hate DB playstyle) where you're overcommitting small hits and then get punished pretty easily due to the lack of tackle, the beloved tackle that's gotten me through so much. Not to mention, I love my big numbers and SSC just makes getting to true charge take so much longer, which is irking. A friend of mine swore up and down it was so good, but by MR 3 he went back to the tried and true, so I think that's how most older mains will go with it versus the newer players who are probably just fine with it as is.
@Max2ds2 жыл бұрын
Y’all bring up some good points, but I use both if I’m being honest. I have one switch set for the og style and one for the new surge slash combo. I find that surge is better when you’re dealing with fast monsters or have smaller windows. It’s damage is honestly better than a hammer’s hit and run in my experience, and is easier to deal good damage with since often times the head is difficult to reach. I don’t have strongarm yet though, so that could significantly change my perspective.
@lennartj.80722 жыл бұрын
I used it until MR4 but felt like I got my ass beat a lot with it since there's no good defensive option while youre in the combo (the final roundslash has hyper armor but no significant damage reduction)
@NACLGames2 жыл бұрын
Conceptually and on paper comparing numbers, I like it as long as we don't compare it efficiency-wise with good execution of the TCS focused single hit massive damage playstyle in the video. If you find it difficult to land TCS or even rage slash, this can give you pretty consistent damage. While it sort of brands itself as being a couple of quick slashes, the damage is actually pretty good. Max damage is 2 downward slash followed by an uppercut, which actually comes out to roughly the same damage as the lvl 1 and 2 charged slashes put together. You can trade some of that damage to be more versatile...3 downwards is a bit faster and easier to hit, while the roundhouse hits around you. Crucially, the roundhouse slash can also be made to stop in any direction using left stick, so you can work roundhouses in to keep re-orienting. So it's a versatile moveset. Because you can't access tackle and it takes far too long to access TCS with it, you rely on it's consistent damage to just keep chipping away at the target. Basically, I see it as a better alternative to chop->sheathe/maybe 2nd chop->run gameplay and frankly it makes a lot of sense to give you an option in that direction. Crit draw did not get any better, so if you prefer playing this way, this might be the combo for you. TCS can still be accessed when needed by doing the guarding kick tackle to reach lvl 2 slash, or you can...you know, use the loadout switch. That's what it's for, not just to cancel your TCS recovery lol. And don't get me wrong, I played GS since gen 1 for the precision big deeps gameplay, so I prefer the video's playstyle. That doesn't mean there aren't alternative playstyles that work fine and are fun. Surge is pretty good, if you enjoy it and find a way to work it into your gameplay, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

A couple of small tips. On Switch: The "A" attacks are lower damage, but do stun. "X+A" is great at closing distance. "X" does the most damage from what I've seen. I like "X+A, X+A, X" for distance. "A, A, X" for speed. Keep in mind you don't get the roll into tackle anymore, but you can still guard, kick, tackle, charge. I keep my charge combo on the other scroll and switch when I know there's going to be an opening. Using the suggestion from the video, get out a TCS then change your stance to recover and go into the faster combos.

My biggest hit so far was 1600-something, and I'm nowhere near endgame yet. Currently using Gore Magala's GS. Idk, that playstyle just works the best for me, but I will lowkey try practicing this. Especially for waking monsters up or mounting them

Strongarm stance is fun to play and learn if you like solo play, but it’s borderline useless in multiplayer since it’s extremely difficult to get the monster to target you. That’s why every videos about strongarm Stance out there are in solo mode Surge charge slash was designed to be use in multpleplayer so GS users can put out consistent damage, which is more important in MP setting. Personally I don’t like how the new design seperates gs into two modes. Surge charge slash barely feels like greatswprd anymore and instead feels like a new weapon. The problem is the monsters these days move so fast and cover so much distant, you pretty much have to use surge slash when you play with others, or you will be a baggage for your team The whole bomb+counter method feels like a gimmick for me….. it just feels like greatsword becomes less like greatsword with each iteration capcom create……
