MHRise Sunbreak (Switch): Nargacuga

Finally got around to finishing game/making a set. Still gotta grind some stuff but wanted to do a quick run. Couple mistakes, will tryhard this matchup later 😛. Dereliction with Bloodlust is really cool and easy to maintain health. Probably gonna be using keeping sway a lot, with both courage and strength

Nice run Caolan! Man the amount of element on that hammer looks mouth-watering :D - I should give Narga another try too sometime. Just trying to figure out a set. Have you tried out the final boss' hammer? Should be fun to mess around with considering it'll stay in purple for a good while

I honestly have no idea what’s optimal in this game, I just use what I feel like for sets lol. I’ve been using final boss hammer a lot actually, affinity is kinda bad but I think it’s still decent. It’s great if you’re hunting with pets or can find a cutterfly. I like to use it with the bloodlust skill, probably not meta but whatever lol. We should hunt sometime!

Thanks! Courage is really fun for some monsters, for some it feels bad lol and strength works better. Hammer is certainly more fun than it was in base Rise

I got into hammer again with Sunbreak and I'm having a blast with courage hammer! I've been using it with the Volvidon Hammer while climbing the ranks and I often chain KOs into paras and paras into KOs. I wasn't sure if courage style was a downgrade or upgrade (besides the fun factor of course) but this seems really good actually! Did it get buffed since Rise?

Yeah it got buffed a lot! Charges a lot faster now, can chain golfswing into level 3 charge, and impact burst silkbind works really well with it. Strength got a huge buff to its level 3 charge attack. Both are a lot more fun than in base Rise I think. I still need to try a para hammer, that sounds so fun!

@@caolanberg3837 I have used the Iron Devil through my entire PC playthrough and it's great. Just got a God talisman too with defense boost3, wirebug whisperer2 with a 3,2,1 slot.

You're mashing either one of two buttons in a row until you get the big hit or repeat the charge until you're satisfied (with courage) with strength you practically just wanna charge to level 3 and then do impact crater (it's still possible with courage but it's funner to just let the combo rock imo)

Is it just me or does the final hit of big bang do a lot more damage now? Actually sometimes feels worth using lol. Also it's so nice to see Valor Hammer actually be good again :-) I'm still getting used to it in the context of Rise's gameplay but it feels so much better than it did in the base game.

If a bug needs to recharge and you have a large opening, the only two real options are the golf swing and big bang. Crater is just better when you have the bugs tho

The last hit got buffed a lot. Was watching some courage style hammer vids just now, and if you have the wirebugs it’s better to do impact crater, roll then triple pound, into impact crater again. Hammer got buffed a lot in general actually. You still want to use impact crater a lot if you’re trying to go fast, but you can also get pretty close times without it now which is cool

Raw MV got buffed from 100 to about 175. All charge attacks (not counting silkbinds) were buffed substantially as well. For the most part, a 50% damage increase for the ones I've tested (so not Courage Hammer and not the regular Spinning Bludgeon). In particular, Charged Brutal Big Bang was buffed by 96%.

Great job. Love to see TA rules runners. I might try this matchup myself actually. Although I'm going to try using Strength hammer since that got buffed too and won't be using Impact Craters. I'm very curious how fast it can be done without using Impact Craters given all the other hammer buffs.

You can probably get a similar time, they buffed the hell out of that level 3 charge. Been having fun switching between strength and courage. I’m wondering if it’s with using impact burst with strength? I do it at the start of the fight to help with KO damage, but it doesn’t seem worth it to use after with how long it takes. Trying to work using it into fights but it seems to mess me up more than it helps

Yeah they buffed the MV of the level 3 charge attack (officially called Charged Brutal Big Bang) from 150MV to 235MV. They also buffed upswing a bit too. I like using Impact Burst on knockdowns/KOs as if you're getting those fast enough, it means you have the buff the whole fight. Other than that, if a monster gives a huge opening, it might be possible to do safely after some other moves. I don't expect to beat your time here, but I'll definitely try to get close.

So I ended up getting a 2:59 clear under TA rules. No Impact Craters used. Granted I used a better spawn than you (I highly recommend you get the PC version so you can have fixed spawns lol). It's on my channel now if you're interested in watching. This shows Hammer is extremely well designed now. We ended up using drastically different skills (IC and Courage vs Strength) but ended up with similar clear times as you predicted. There are finally multiple viable playstyles now and unlike base Rise you aren't just shoe horned into one. Anyway love your videos (really enjoyed your GU content too), looking forward to seeing more. For some reason there's not many TA runners for hammer these days (especially under TA wiki rules) and you're easily one of the best hammer users around.

Thanks. Yeah the fact that you and I went about the matchup in completely different ways but ended up with very similar clear times shows Hammer is a much more interesting weapon now. I couldn't say which playstyle is the best/better and that's great. Looking forward to your future runs with both courage and strength.

I think element is pretty good with courage yeah, if monsters are 25+ weakness I’d say. I’m not 100% sure on what is best, I haven’t made much gear yet. This one is probably best for thunder. For dragon, Valstrax looks good. Final boss looks decent, can slot in Kushala Soul to make up for the negative affinity. Water and fire, maybe Almudron/Magmadron, and ice I dunno. Courage definitely makes better use of element than strength, strength will probably want to focus more on raw. Definitely gotta make a few hammers to test stuff out

It does seem like a cool skill, but I don’t think it’s strong enough, plus Garangolm armor pieces don’t really have damage boosting skills

I never messed around with that so whatever the default setting is I guess. I record from an iphone, on a plasma tv downstairs where it’s dark. I dunno if that helps at all lol. My phone seems to record a lot better downstairs than upstairs

I actually didn’t realize it added stun lol! I think going for raw is more damage too, even though the percentage increase is less, your raw is a lot higher than element so the amount added should be more

Haven’t been able to play a ton yet, but I get pretty similar kill times with both. I wanna say strength is better in general, especially for monsters that have fewer openings/move around a lot. You can spam the lvl 3 charge a lot with keeping sway. Courage seems just as strong for monsters that are constantly in your face, and can do a bit more damage when they’re down, so maybe it’s meta for a few monsters
