How did you know you should wait untill the monster came up for another down? Do you count the hits from the start of the down or something?

After running the quest enough times, you can tell how many hits are required for breaking the spikes. In my case, it was superpound + neutral right swing + superpound. So yes, damage counting for that. The main reason I did it was because breaking the spikes while Nergigante is down...doesn't give you a topple. That's why I waited a bit !

The white spikes. If you break them while nergigante is up you get a guaranted topple which is what happened there. However, If you break them while it's already down, nothing happens so you essentially lost an opening to deal damage. That was the reasoning.

A lot of attempts. It wasn't just the monster itself being hard, but also all the other factors (monster rng, gajalakas ruining TA runs, turf war rng). Sub10 was really hard but I managed to do it. I can rest now.
