MHW: Iceborne - Tempered Ruiner Nergigante | Lance - 3'59"78 (TA Wiki Rules)

Wanted to take a little break from the endgame monsters, so I went to brush up on my Tempered Ruiner Nergigante matchup with post-Fatalis gear. It didn't really turn out to be a break because counting thrusts to keep track of Nergigante's spike cycles is equally as difficult.
That moment after the hunt when you check your map and see that you've finally achieved your goal (3:5x:xx in my case) is something you'll never forget; it makes the hundreds of failed attempts all worth it!
My build is at 4:11. I took Evade Window 3 because Nergigante's roars landing outside of my guard angle was driving me crazy. If the Lancer's positioning isn't perfect-which mine is definitely not-then Nergigante's roars will often end up behind the shield. This problem is exacerbated by its enragement roar, where Nergigante shoots its head forward, and its general tendency to cover the Lancer with its body slams. Having Evade Window 3 served as an "Ace in the hole" to use to hop through its roars when my positioning wasn't optimal. You can see it come in handy at 1:57.

Thank you, Jaggy! Ariana Grande is one of the most satisfying artists to pummel monsters to. Before Iceborne I used to join HR SOS hunts with "7 rings" on in the background and it was so fun hyping up the rookie hunters with affinity boosters and heals. I also loved playing the whole "thank u next" album during the Alatreon Era. Starting off a morning with Alatreon and "imagine" gives me so much nostalgia. I would do anything to have that pre-Fatalis Era back. What kinds of music do you enjoy listening to while hunting?

Late to the MH party... Been vibing with the lance to help my HBG user keep some distance. Came from another video you had commented on. A video that I had heavily disagreed with from my simple sub 100 hunts with the Lance. So I came to watch you, and confirmed that I'm on the right path. There's something about these larger named streamers across gaming as a whole that continually seem to kinda actually suck at playing the game. Like noticing when certain habits that habitual gamers do to save time / prevent bugs, aren't done. Like the videos are being put out for the sake of content, or even wrong to provoke more attention. It does take time to produce, and that's time not spent gaming after all. It puts a lot of doubt in my mind that I am not doing X 'meta' because someone with subs said. I still can't understand how it's wrong to be the last one alive, and still attacking. Anyways... Thank you for showing me the right way to play, without the gimmicks / tricks and bombs. Just pure lancin at .5x speed (.25 audio was unbearable). Why would we ever sheath, dodge, or run away when we can just put up this thing called a shield, and then smack them back. I wish the more skilled players made content, but then... they're probably busy getting better.

Thank you, Mr. Rich 😄 You might find the Lance to be a completely different and fresh experience from your current weapon - the Lance is a reactive weapon and is most dependent on your reflexes. In fact, a lot of the time Lance speedrunners don't have a detailed script, they simply have a general outline for the fight and focus on reacting to the monster's actions in real-time. Try it out and see how you like it!

I often criticize myself for having unclean Lance playing (using too many hops like at 0:46, using Guard Dashes in the wrong direction like at 2:10), so seeing you compliment my playing for seeming clean is very much appreciated. Thank you, ZOne! 6'xx Ruiner Nergigante is what I used to get with pre-Fatalis gear as well! From analyzing the hunts of a few other Lancers, I found that Fatalis gear generally reduces the time of speedruns by 40 seconds. So, 6'00 Ruiner Nergigante with pre-Fatalis gear would be about 5'20 with Fatalis gear if one performed at the exact same level. If we apply that to this hunt, I would have performed a 4'39 run with pre-Fatalis gear, which is about the same speed as Alex_'s and KCGemini's Ruiner Nergigante hunts.
