I am French-American. I may have been born in the U.S but I am proud of my French family background and seen Notre dame cathedral Few times. Every time I go to Paris I am very amazed by Notre dame cathedral. The fact it took two centuries to build and the craftsmen of Notre dame is truly amazing and impressive. I was in Paris back in July and took pictures of the rebuild of Notre dame.

I been to Paris twice. I’ve been to Notre Dame once before the fire it is really beautiful. It’d be great to see it again. What’s your favourite area of Paris?

The church in this video is not how it looked at the time of its construction. It was renovated and changed during the 19th century. The front was considerably different, and the needle that recently burned wasn’t there yet.

Oh it definitely looked like that, save for the fact the interior was most likely painted. The central spire was there from the 12th century as well, however it was destroyed in the 18th century and restored by Viollet Le Duc in the 19th. You can see it in old illustrations such as 1450 "The right hand of God protecting the faithful" by Jean Fouquet, "Dagobert Ier refugié à Saint-Denis" by the same artist, "The meeting of the magi" by the Limbourg brothers 1412.

I recommend Myles Zhang’s narrated construction sequence on Notre-Dame for more fleshed out historical details. Otherwise, this video is pretty good as it is One tiny thing that was omitted was that each bay used to have an oculus and a smaller clerestory window, making the inner structure 4 stories throughout Only later were most* of the oculi removed to make way for the more iconic, larger Gothic clerestory windows

The needle that burned wasn't even an original one as well. But, kudos for including small chapel at the back yard.

The façade was never ever changed ever since the Middle Ages. And the spire WAS there. It was a different one, smaller in size than the one that burned, which is precisely what is depicted here.

Except that it did. Maybe do some research first. It literally takes 3 seconds of your time. You’re already on your phone so maybe use it for something useful. Instead of commenting while clearly not having any knowledge

So how was it actually built with the technology of the time. Just 10 minutes of descriptive words that didn't explain much at all 🤣

Exactly! They love gaslighting us. This was not built by our civilization’s hands esp back when there were no power tools, heavy lifting vehicles, etc. IF we they had the ability to create structures that lasted many centuries, why are we now building crappy ones that can’t last and are imperfect with all the advancements and tools at our disposal? Not to mention we have way more people who can assist and be awesome at it? Cause we can’t replicate what wasn’t built by us!!! That’s why!

No way there are people denying medieval architecture. It was built with cranes, stones and chisels of skilled stone masons and it took 2 centuries.

@GoodOlPain9 I don’t think the commenter is denying that, they’re just pointing out that for a video with the title of “how notre dame was built” it did not show or describe how it was built at all 😅

What ???? A rose windows of 40 meters in diameter????? This is completely wrong ! The entire cathedral facade is less wide than 45 meters, how it can host a rose window of 40 meters in diameter ?????

Used to be a beautiful Catholic basilica. Now it's just a state owned protestant temple, tourist attraction. Christ has left the building...and the country.
